I paid the $40 fee + 18% included tip for the tatami dining room…yet the service was so bad, the food was ok… but hey, at least the environment was nice. So, I reserved the tatami dining room about a week and a half in advance. They asked what the occasion was for and I said it was to celebrate a birthday. They said I was all set. When I arrived, they were not ready for me and my party. Service was slow once things were all set up. They didn’t take our order until 40 min later. They even made an excuse that they were slow with us bc they mixed up the days of my reservation and thought I was coming the day before… and tried to blame me for not answering their call from yesterday to confirm that I was coming on which ever day. Honestly, it is not my problem that they can’t be organized with things like this… and they never told me that I needed to double check with them, so it sort of made me feel annoyed. Also, the waitress shut the door of our dining room completely and when she came back, she acted like I was the one who shut it and told me that I wasn’t allowed to do that… and I had to clear that up and say “I didn’t close it though”. It was really odd. The food came out fast tho, and the Chicken Katsu curry was just ok. the sashimi and dashi dish were good. Also, they didn’t even acknowledge the whole birthday thing. So yeah, the service was so bad that I regret paying the extra $40 + 18% included tip. I get that they were busy and short staffed that day, but I didn’t appreciate the excuses and even being slightly blamed by the waiter for things that I didn’t do/weren’t my responsibility. I won’t be returning. It was such a...
Read moreThis place is EXTREMELY overpriced. I understand the location of this restaurant, but most people, regardless of what neighbor they come from, don't go to lunch wanting to spend 35-50+$ on a lunch for 2 people... unless if it's a business lunch. But for the average person wanting to grab a simple bite to eat, it's really annoying to think about. The portions also did not justify the price. I appreciate the sushi and it's prep seeming fresh, but it still doesn't justify the price given the overall experience. The rolls were extremely small (bite size), so that just further irritated me. Our hamachi roll was also very fishy, even though tye rest of the sushi was up to par. It was an awful first experience, and while the owner thinks he got us ($), the joke is really on him, because I, and I am sure many other patrons who experience the same thing, will never come back. No wonder the entire restaurant is dead and we were the only ones there. I feel sorry for the waitress who has to work a shift with no tables. (I'm sure dinner is busy, I hope.) You are better off going to Atami Steak amd sushi 15 minutes away, where they will give you the same 3 rolls for $10, while here is is $20+. Their sushi is also very good, the fish is fresh and the sushi prep is up to par, and the rolls are at least standard sized. The restaurant also has business. We will never be...
Read moreI really wanted to give this place 5-stars since its run by real Japanese people, and the food was absolutely delicious, but they kicked out my friend and her two-year old during my birthday dinner this past weekend. I understand her boy is a little loud, but he's only two. Also, he would have calmed down once we got into the private room. That's one of the reasons I asked to book the private room. I probably would have been treated better if I spoke to them in Japanese over the phone when making my reservation. やっぱり日本語を使ってないと間違いです。I came with a half Japanese co-worker at lunch, she spoke to the waitress in Japanese and we were treated really well that day. The Bento boxes were really great. The best Japanese bento I've had in Houston, honestly. Anyway I would recommend this place because their food, especially sushi and sashimi were really fresh. I won't make the mistake next time and use Japanese when addressing the staff. If only they knew I worked at Sumitomo Corp. they would be kicking themselves. Lol. Still, I will back but with a smaller group next time. Also, they did give me a free Matcha cheesecake for my birthday, which was really nice, so that kind of made up for it. Thanks for hosting me for...
