UPDATE - JUNE 2025 - THEY'RE STILL AMAZING!!! It couldn't have been 2 minutes from when I placed my FRIDAY NIGHT order to when someone brought it over. Just as yummy as ever. Skip Cane's. DO LAYNE'S ❤️❤️❤️
"Soon To Be Famous." That's Layne's tag line. I think they'll do it, too.
Ever since Layne's took up the old KFC location at Fairview and S. Shepherd, the area has had an embarrassment of places to get chicken fingers. Not a stone's throw away from Layne's is Raisin' Cane's. But...Layne's is BETTER!
There is just something different about how Layne's makes their fingers. They have a kind of roasted taste even though they're fried. And their Layne's sauce is different from Raisin' Cane's, but in a really subtle way - it's tangier and has a bit of a peppery kick to it. Put those things together with what I would say is slightly better Texas Toast, and it's a superior taste to the other guys.
I also like the simplicity of Layne's. It's a simple, white dining area, with room for probably about a dozen patrons (and six wall clocks). The rah-rah thing that Raisin' Cane's has going on, plus their eye-rolling "One Love" slogan, I find tiresome on a psychic level. Layne's just gives you good food that speaks for itself. They even have non-chicken items on the menu (like grilled cheese!).
If you're a night owl, you will love Layne's. It has hours that could compete with any pizza place. Sunday through Wednesday, they close at 12 midnight. Thursday nights, they close at 2:00 am (early Friday). And weekend nights - Friday night and Saturday night - they are open until an eye-popping 4:00 am!!! Even House Of Pies on Kirby doesn't keep hours like that!
If you want to read just how far the feud between Layne's and Cane's goes, just Google it. Layne's was first in 1994, with Cane's coming along two years later. Cane's has expanded to far more locations, but Layne's is growing, also.
Sure, there's other places like Whataburger and other commercial mainline places that have chicken fingers, but if you want something that says "Texas", Layne's is it.
One of the guys asked for a review. There ya go, guy. Keep...
Read moreLayne's Chicken Fingers has once again proven its mastery in the art of casual dining with the launch of its newest location, which I had the pleasure of visiting during its soft opening. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by an ambiance that is both welcoming and vibrant, setting the stage for an exceptional dining experience.
What stood out immediately was the attentiveness of the staff. They were not only friendly but also impressively efficient, ensuring that every order was delivered swiftly and accurately. This level of service is a hallmark of Layne's, and it was delightful to see it being upheld at their new establishment.
The menu, true to Layne's reputation, did not disappoint. Their unsweetened tea, a refreshing complement to any meal, was particularly noteworthy. It struck the perfect balance between robust flavor and lightness, making it an ideal choice for those who appreciate the natural taste of tea without the overpowering sweetness.
The spicy chicken strips were a highlight of the visit. Cooked to golden perfection, they were tender on the inside and delightfully crispy on the outside. The level of spice was spot on – enough to add a kick, but not so much as to overpower the natural flavors of the chicken. This careful balancing act is a testament to the skill of Layne's chefs.
And then, there's the Layne sauce. This signature sauce is a culinary masterpiece, with its creamy texture and a unique blend of spices that complement the chicken without overwhelming it. It's a must-try for anyone visiting Layne's, and it certainly lived up to its reputation at this new location.
In conclusion, Layne's newest location is a great addition to their restaurant family. It upholds the high standards of quality and service that Layne's is known for, while also bringing its own unique charm to the table. Whether you're a long-time fan of Layne's or a first-time visitor, this location is sure to provide a memorable...

Regarding my order, I encountered a minor issue where the cashier did not correctly enter my information for the rewards program.
