Looking for a cozy place for beer, food, and other drinks? In the greater Houston area, the choices are many but if you want a more intimate, comfy place that also happens to brew their own beer on site, then a good place to consider is Phoenix on Westheimer.
This establishment is in a busy area loaded with options for food and drink. I find that I often think about going here when I’m in the mood for beer, which is most of the time. They have a substantial selection of local and other beer, both on draft and in bottles/cans. And, of course, they also brew their own, which is great for those of us who like variety when we drink.
The menu at Phoenix on Westheimer includes pub grub and the food, as expected, goes well with beer. I got myself a serving of chicken quesadillas on my last visit, which went quite nicely with the house brewed blonde ale. I have usually ordered burgers in the past and found them more than palatable.
The atmosphere at Phoenix on Westheimer has a British vibe and I like the comfy seating options. There is a large screen for sports viewing and several smaller screen. They have a single pool table, too, perfect for shooting a few rounds with friends. This adds to the overall comfort and friendly vibe, much like a true home away from home.
Phoenix on Westheimer is a good choice for many reasons and it will continue to be an occasional stopping place for me when I’m in the area. I do wish they would expand on the small brew house and have more of their own beers on tap- there are usually just 2 or so- but when I consider the number of beers overall and other factors, Phoenix on Westheimer earns an easy...
Read moreI visited The Firkin & Phoenix Sunday afternoon after church since it was nearby and my guest that was in town for the holiday wanted a nice place for breakfast but inexpensive. We walked in and saw a sign that read welcome and to seat ourselves and so we did. We chose a booth next to the window. This establishment has lavish, plush red velvet booths, that along with the dark wooden booths and tables, you know you're not walking into some type of shabby pub.
We were a bit concerned that we would have a wait for someone to come take our orders because we sat ourselves, but that wasn't the case. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We ordered mimosas, which were really good. The drink wasn't watered down at all and there was alot of bubbly in it, and for $3 a glass, it was a good deal. I hate though that I didn't know that after 4 pm, the mimosas are bottomless, but I know now for future reference. My guest and I both ordered The Firkin Breakfast which consisted of eggs (either scrambled or fried), a slice of bacon, sausage, home-style potatoes, four slices of toast (your choice of bread), and three slices of tomatoes. The food was good, but our eggs could have been more liked we asked, scrambled medium and not hard. The price wasn't bad either, I believe $6.95 plus tax.
I checked out their site when I got home and saw that they do offer happy hour Monday-Friday from 2 pm - 7pm, you can also visit their website for other specials and activities that they have...
Read moreI went to the Pheonix last Monday night because my Groupon was about to expire. I went by myself post work-out and sat at the bar. I was greeted quite promptly by a friendly male bartender, offered a sample of beer (cranberry wheat... quite tasty), and then had a well poured snake bite (although $7 for a snake bite is kind of high). I showed my Groupon to the bar tender right when I sat down, but that didn't deter providing grade-A service.
Everything throughout the rest of my experience was excellent. The fish and chips came out very quickly after ordering, it was so fresh and crispy - the batter was delightful. The chips were also fresh. The salad (which I took to-go for lunch today) was made with fresh spring mix and freshly chopped veggies - not something I would've predicted coming from a bar restaurant. The grilled chicken was tender and very tasty.
I think this is my favorite place in Houston thus far for a good meal at a bar. The bar tender especially blew me away with his friendly (but very laid back friendliness.. not like obnoxious, in your face, peppy, wont leave you alone kind of friendly), quick, knowledgeable, and welcoming.
I'll be back for sure! This seriously was a...
