So my husband and i went to have lunch today at this restaraunt mind you i have been coming here sense i was old enough to eat solid food i knew the original owner and family of this place and im 26 years old never have i had an issue. And i walked in wet from the rain with hairspray in my hair and ordered a margarita my husband ordered a beer and we was denied due to the smell of alcohal now neither of us had drank he had just gotten off work i had been home all day. And wanted comfort food on a wet rainy day. And a margarita but got denied because i have hair spray in my hair now those of you who use hair spray you know that there is some that have alcohal in it and when it gets wet you can smell it. I even spoke to the manager and told both of them to smell my hair that is what was giving off the alcohal smell. And they just looked at me stupid. I dont feel that was right. There is no alcohal on my breath nor my husbands we both walk normal and talking clear with no slurring and they stiff refused to sell us a drink. Now i used to feel comfort and a family feeling there because i grew up in that restaurant and now i dont anymore. And i honestly feel it's due to a white girl walking in with a mexican man is the reason we was denied. with as long as ive been going there i will NEVER step foot back into that...
Read moreWe were driving through the area and decided to stop for some breakfast. I picked this place because they had good reviews. Well if you're a true homemade Mexican type of person, I'm here to give you REAL honest review. To be fair, I'll start with the positives. The restaurant was clean. The staff was friendly. The restroom was clean. The prices were decent. The corn tortillas were homemade. The guacamole was delicious. The chips and salsa were the best part! Now on to the quality. The wait time was ridiculous. We waited about a minimum of 45 minutes to maybe 55 minutes for our food. I'm assuming their can opener broke and they had to venture out for a new one. I ordered menudo and was disappointed to taste canned menudo with some added touches. That was by far NOT authentic homemade menudo. The meat was totally processed and soggy. My husband ordered carnitas rancheras. It was a pork chop not carnitas. It had absolutely no crisp to it. The rice tasted like the "Mexican rice" my elementary school used to serve. Made with only comino to make it seem "authentic". He said the beans tasted canned as well. We were not impressed. Perhaps we just picked the wrong dishes. Who knows? I wouldn't recommend anyone to NOT eat here, I would just recommend you lower your...
Read moreSomehow, Mi Sombrero had missed my TexMex radar for a long time! So I decided to head over and check it out. I was not disappointed!
First off, the chips and salsa. Fresh and warm chips if just the right thickness served with an amazing warm salsa which was a red brick color. Honestly, one of the better salsas I’ve had served with chips.
Of course I had to get a combination plate. I got their number one, which offered two enchiladas, a queso doused tostado, crispy beef taco, rice and beans, and an avocado/guac salad. The guac was fresh and bright, simple recipe without a lot of extra stuff thrown in. You can definitely tell the beans are homemade and oh, so creamy! Excellent rice, cooked just right. The beef taco was seasoned well. The enchiladas were also good, but perhaps the least favorite of mine on the plate. Maybe just my palate, but the cheese made them a little rubbery. But excellent gravy on top and they offer them with fresh onion on top if you want.
All this with endless, fresh tea!
Service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. Automatically offered a “to go” tea with my leftovers box!
Will be back to explore the...
