Common Bond On-The-Go - Garden Oaks — Restaurant in Houston

Been coming to common bond since the first week they opened but less over the years. Ever since it was sold to Carrabas the quality has significantly declined. Couple that with it’s rapid expansion into many locations and you get even less quality control. Fortunately for the most part service is still pretty good. Today i ordered a cortado that came with milk that hadn’t been textured at all as well as watery espresso (too low a dose of ground beans and terrible barista technique). Fortunately they had good customer service and nice allowed me to return it for a nitro cold brew. This was supposed to be a safe choice as it is batch made and easy to make which should translate to a consistently good drink. Unfortunately this was not the case. There was a strong hazelnut flavor (which most associate with cheap gas station coffee) and was way too diluted as if they added water after brewing lol. Hope they sort this out.

I also got the kouign-amann which has progressively been made with less and less technique. It is never properly caramelized. I can’t say I’m surprised considering how many locations they have. This undoubtedly makes consistency a hell of a challenge. I left 4 stars because i hope they can take this constructively and address these issues. They still make good desserts/pastries for the most part and...

I love the food and coffee. I probably go to the Common Bond on Shepherd at least twice a week because of the quality and how easy it is do drive-thru. I've passed Common Bond a few times to go to Starbucks (super close to Common Bond) and there will be a HUGE line at Starbucks. So, I'll turn around, return to Common Bond, get my order and then drive past Starbucks only to see that the drive-thru line has barely moved. My husband loves the bacon and egg crossaint and I love the egg bites for breakfast (cheaper than the sous vis at Starbucks). And, I cannot get enough of the ham and cheese sandwich and my husband loves the chicken salad sandwich. Also, if they have it ...we also like the curried egg salad sandwich...super unique flavor and delicious. The frozen coffee drink will have you wired. It is sweet! I don't like sweet coffee too much but my husband loves it. Sometimes, I'll split the oatmeal creme cookie with my husband... they are sooooo good! We really enjoy Common Bond. And the service is faster...

Looks like that ever since they got a new Gm and the company got sold to someone new this place is falling apart. Mother’s Day only the drive thru was open due to short staffed, then again the following Tuesday and again today. They can’t seems to keep employees nor get new ones. I bet it hasn’t dawned on them that you can’t mess with people’s pay and expect them to hang around. There were some real nice employees there and little by little they are leaving. The crazy thing is people get upset with the employees, when they have no control on what is going on. People should take a good hard look at the company and the GM. I have been going there almost daily since they opened and have seen all what is going on. If the new owners and GM don’t open their eyes and change I don’t see things getting better, and could go down like a lot of other places, which is a shame. Value and respect your employees will...
