So I wanted to try my first ever soul food restaurant, I've have soul food from my grandmother (sadly she passed) and aunties but never from a actually restaurant. I ordered over the phone and the process was easy, say what you want, they'll ask a question if needed and you pay in store. I didn't know how long it would take so I just waited an hour but they did call me to tell me "hey its been over an hour just letting you know." So I would say give them about 20 to 30 mins to have it ready and add an extra 20 mins on busy days of course. Be patient and you'll get some good service and good food I ordered the oxtail platter, baked mac & cheese, dirty rice, hush puppies, peach cobbler & a cherry lemonade Oxtail platter (5/5) the meat fall right off the bone with plenty of flavor that adds to the rice under it. You might also be on the bone longer than expected so keep that in mind. Baked mac & cheese (5/5) plenty of cheese & seasoning, not dry so you wont be choking and easy to eat without you feeling like you gonna have a heart attack. Dirty rice (4/5) seasoning is really good on here and has enough meat to call it dirty but me personally its alil too spicy but again that just me. Overall a soild side. Hush Puppies (5/5) never had hush puppies before but my first bit into one had a bunch of flavor, think of a fried corn bread ball thats how it taste really good and you get 4 for $1.25 very affordable Peach cobbler (4/5) sweat & good, has a nice lil sauce to go with it too but me personally I like the crust crunchy but even though the Crust isn't crunchy it still has a velvet like feel it Cherry lemonade (4.5/5) I love cherry and the way they put that in the lemonade is very surprising. You can taste the cherry plus the lemonade and 1 isn't over powering the other. Only thing I would say would be its a bit too sweet but just add more water and you'll be good (plus you'll have more of that lemonade if you do "pro tip") Sadly I'll be i starting my 30 day diet tomorrow but after that June 1st I will be right back here to order more food. So overall I highly recommend this place for your soul food needs based on the service, quality, taste & communication. Be respectful and patient and you'll see greatness
Thank you...
Read moreThis is very unfortunate because this is my first negative review I’ve ever written. When we first walked in no one greeted us, the place seemed empty. Then finally after several hello?’s someone came out to tell us we had to order at the window around the corner towards the back of the restaurant. Cool. No big deal. The woman behind the window rushed us as we ordered. Now for the food. The food is ok. My mom makes better food, I’ve had better food everywhere else. I’ve never seen cabbage so pale, and not to mention it was salty. Yams were ok. Chicken was actually pretty good if you put hot sauce on it. You can make better cornbread from the box at walmart. The drink was ok. I come out to eat to have food that I can’t make better at home, this place did not meet the standard. I paid $22 for this food so yes, I did eat it, even though for much of eating of the chicken I spat out into a napkin because it was so chewy. My friend had to go throw up in their bathroom after finishing her meal. Apparently we sat at a “large parties only” table (mind you there’s no one else in the restaurant but us and we were told to sit anywhere) and got told “this is a large parties only table” with not an excuse me, so sorry to ask yall to move, or anything that would include any polite niceties. We got that statement and a “shoo” look. Had we not already paid for the food we would’ve left. We had to ASK for water/service. And I got a dirty cup. Additionally, another small group came in and stood there with no one greeting them or giving them direction - the man had to ask the young man sweeping where to go and for direction. So we weren’t the only ones lost!
Cute grandma like decor though. Will not be coming back and will never recommend this...
Read moreThis place is a whole vibe and it honestly made our day. My lady and I are cooks and we were craving some soul food but after cooking all day for others we were ready for someone else to do the cooking. We ordered the shrimp platter and the smothered chicken , redbeans n rice, cabbage and yams with peach tea. We also had complimentary drinks and amazing customer service from the beautiful Keisha, who checke on us regularly during our meal but not enough to interupt our flow. My lady and I grooved to the classic r&b comming over the speakers while we waited for our meal and I'll be honest, we couldn't tell you how long it took as we were totally enjoying the atmosphere, drinks and each other. The music is loud enough to get into but somehow just at the level where we could easily hear one another and have a conversation without yelling. The decor and art and pictures on the walls was like visiting family. Our food was very good! The shrimp was seasoned, fries crispy and salty and came with garlic toast. The smothered chicken was also very well seasoned, along with the cabbage and yams and everything was hot out of the kitchen. My lady liked the redbeans n rice but did find them too spicy for her while I could've handle more spice but they were still very tasty. The peach tea was delicious. We ended the night by ordering dessert; sweet potato pie and Italian cream cake which we took home and devoured the next day as they too were delicious! I'm giving 4 stars overall because while the food was delicious I'm a cook and my critiques are based on my culinary skill level and experience but trust me, we really LOVED this place and we will be back again and again! Thank you Keisha for being an...
