This review is specific to our experience with the person at the reception desk, and the manager we spoke with after we arrived. The receptionist greeted me, confirmed my reservation, and then looked coldly at my wife scanning her up and down several times before leading us to our table. As she walked away she again coldly scanned my wife my wife and I were surprised by her rude behavior. A very nice waitress came to the table and gave us our menus. Still upset, my wife stepped away to compose herself and I explained what had just happened to the waitress and requested the manager. The manager came over and I explained what had happened when we arrived. His initial comment was that he had never seen his staff do something like this, they were well trained, and if he had seen this happen he would have addressed it. Then he asked what would you like me to do? I asked him to go talk to woman who checked us in, find out why she treated my wife in such a manner, and ask her for an apology. The manager reiterated that he had never seen any of his staff do such a thing, but that he would go talk to her. After a few minutes, they both came over to deliver a very insincere apology. The woman explained that it was not her intention to be rude, she was looking at the TV on the wall, not my wife, and that she apologized if it made my wife uncomfortable. My wife was standing near the door at the time, is 5'2" tall and the TV was mounted on the far wall over 30 feet away. She also had no explanation for the continued behavior after seating us at our table. The manager again repeated that he had never seen any of his staff act in such away, and then offered to make it right with a free drink, at which point we declined and left the restaurant. It was clear to us that the manager was not taking the event seriously, and it was only after we declined his offer and started to leave he realized his mistake. We were genuine in sharing our concerns related to this experience, you refused to take our issue seriously, we did not come to get anything for free, we did not order any food, and as a result we will...
Read moreTo whom it may concern. I hope this finds you well. On Friday November 12th 2021, my wife and I dined in your establishment for our one year wedding anniversary. This was a place of her choice, so we traveled from Corpus Christi just to eat here. When making reservations online, my wife typed in the special requests box that it was our 1st wedding anniversary and we would like a private table. Once we arrived, we then were led to a table right in the middle of the dining room. What we assumed was going to be a little more private, turned into all eyes on us. When our server arrived at our table, there was no question as to why we were there or if we were celebrating anything. Which in a busy atmosphere I would understand the let’s take orders and get to business mentality. We started off with an $18 dollar glass of wine and a $16 craft brew. We had the lobster raviolis for an appetizer, a wedge and chopped salad, then finished with a Aged K.C. And a Prime Bone In Ribeye. The food was enjoyable, yet we couldn’t help but notice everyone else around us being praised and celebrated for their special day. After being offered desert, we decided to cash out and move on with our night. The server was attentive to our food needs. However our experience then turned into just another expensive dinner vibe. On the way out my wife asked the hostess if they get the notes in the special requests reservation box, and she giggled while saying yes. I don’t know if we were just the unlucky ones that night or if we just were the couple that got a server who didn’t care. We would of stayed longer, had more drinks and even desert. But it seemed like we were just a table they wanted to flip and get us out of the restaurant quickly. If you ever reserve for a special event that is going to be memorable for the rest of your life, make sure you triple check your reservation. Our 1st anniversary dinner night is going to be forever remembered as just another expensive dinner night instead of a memory we’d want...
Read moreMorton's used to be my go to steak house but not anymore after my most recent visit. So my steak was properly cooked on the inside however, the outside was burned! The char taste was overbearing (very unusal for Mortons). The lobster bisque was just ok when usually it is awesome. My wife said that her steak lacked flavor (again, not usual here at Mortons). The wine menu was not updated as I ordered a particular favorite just for the waiter to return to the table to tell me that they no longer carried that particular wine. I paid over $200 for my meal which I dont mind spending that on special occasions (mother's day), but when I spend that much, I expect my food to be more than just ok. I dont know what happened or what changed but I was very disappointed because I have had some really great meals and great times at Morton's. It will be a while before I go back if I ever do. It would take a lot to convince my wife but we will see. Good luck with your visit.
Update: After agreeing to revisit Morton’s Downtown and after convincing my wife to do so, I must retract my previous review. I guess everyone is entitled a bad day and Morton’s is no exception. The most important thing about having a bad day in this industry is correcting it and Morton’s management (Mark) did exactly that. I ordered everything I ordered the last time and everything was delicious. About what is expected from a fine restaurant like Morton’s. Thanks to the managers for being so polite in view of the situation and thanks to our waiter, which was very, knowledgeable and polite which made the visit even greater. WILL COME BACK! AND OF COURSE,...
