My brother and I came in wanting to try their Japanese cheesecake but they only sell them by whole cakes. We didn’t want to buy 2 whole cakes for 2 people to bring it home individually for $19.95 for 1 cake. No problem, we asked if they can cut it for us and spilt it. The girl just said “no we cannot but we can give u a disposable knife” I said that works. Then the cashier guy rings me up for 2 cakes, I told him they misunderstood us. We just want 1 cake for both of us to split to take home. He changes it to 1 cake. But my brother asks can we get a second box to hold the other half? (Box was just a cardboard box nothing fancy) Same lady gave a robotic answer of “no we cannot”. She did not even offer giving us a plastic wrapper to split the cake for 2 people. So I had no extra bag or box for my brother to take his half home. At this point with their unwillingness to help , we just left after paying with our cake. There’s no point arguing when it was clear the staff either could not be bothered or were incapable of thinking of other simple options. Got home, tried the cake. Sorry it’s not worth $19.95. Been to Asia and had way better. Also, $20 at 85C bakery with their egg tarts would have been more worth it. Cake is too dense and eggy for Japanese style cheesecake. Doubt they will last especially with their inflexibility and lack of...
Read moreIf you've wanted to try the famous Japanese fluffy cheesecake and don't want to travel all the way to Japan to get it, then this is the place to go! Note that Japanese cheesecake is very different from American cheesecake! This cake is very soft, spongy, and not creamy/ wet like American cheesecake. This means that you can easily slice it and grab it in your hands without making a mess. One thing I liked about this cake was that it was not too sweet.
I got to try the Strawberry Tea drink and the Pearilous tea drink, both with cheese foam. They came out looking beautiful but the taste wasn't amazing. It was just decent and not worth the price in my opinion.
There were 3 tables in the store with two chairs each. Two of the tables had access to an outlet. So if you're looking for a place to study, this could be an option, just keep in mind that they do not have public wifi (so you'll have to use a mobile Hotspot or do stuff offline) and during their busier hours it might be very loud and distracting in the store. We went on a Wednesday at 12 and we were the only people there.
Overall, if you're coming to this store to try out the cheesecake, this restaurant is...
Read moreIf you've had Japanese cheesecakes before, then this place is top-notch. I saw some reviews complaining about an egg-y taste/smell, but they must have fixed that issue because this was perfect. The texture and consistency was exactly what I would expect as well.
If you have not had Japanese cheesecakes before, here's what to expect. These cakes are very fluffy, sort of akin to a sponge cake. They're lightly sweetened the way you would expect them in Japan. There aren't any strong flavors like vanilla or anything as the only ingredients are creme cheese, cream, eggs, sugar, and flour. If you're looking for a very sweet cake or used to a classic cheesecake, this place might not be for you.
The staff was extremely friendly and did a proper job of explaining that you should open the box and vent the cake to keep it from getting soggy since they're still warm when they're fresh!
Also, I called ahead of time to ask if they were sold out and when they would be making a new batch. They're no longer doing pre-orders. It's first come...
