This message contains a response to another reviewer who seems to be confused about vegan ham... I feel compelled to mention this because the reviewer seems to be under the erroneous impression that she consumed a product that was not vegan. Please reference the photo attached for evidence. Onto my own review, which is nonetheless subpar. I was immediately greeted at the drive thru, I was very pleased about this because I was initially skeptical whether anyone could see me. I ordered tofu spring roll, tofu bun (vermicelli salad), and tofu banh mi (sandwich). The first thing I mentioned was my diet restriction : vegan. I will say that I have been vegetarian all my life, and vegan for 5 years. The food did not taste vegan at all. The owner is encouraged to keep me honest, but I have had tofu all my life and I know what vegan food is supposed to taste like by now. The vermicelli salad was a nice balance of tofu, vermicelli, and salad. I enjoyed it a lot, except the dressing tasted of fish sauce. This would not be unusual for a traditional vermicelli salad, so I wouldn't be surprised if the ingredients contained fish sauce. Vegans are advised to make their own dressing at home and discard the ramikin of Oui's dressing. The tofu tasted of egg, I attribute this to the flaky, crispy outer shell of the tofu. I believe they battered in egg before frying to achieve this. Vegans are advised to refrain from eating the tofu unless they plan on removing the outer texture. The tofu banh mi (sandwich) I have the same remarks about. Again, the tofu tasted of egg. Moreover, I ordered extra vegetables on sandwich for $1. In enjoyed the ratio of veges to bread, although I removed most of the bread. The bread wasn't spectacular, little chewy. The tofu spring rolls, again, tasted of egg. I enjoyed the proportion of tofu to vegetables to rice wrapper to vermicelli. I asked about the pho. Again, the offer a tofu pho, but this NOT VEGETARIAN. They claim it is in their regular broth. The guy who took my order looked really annoyed when I asked him specifically, "well what's the base?". He responded, "it's just our regular clear broth". So I pried a little further... Is it chicken broth? Finally he said yes. Sorry vegans, go few blocks further downtown to get your vegan pho fill. There's a real gem down, but I won't mention the name here.

Visiting Houston! Heard that really good Vietnamese cuisine exists here and so proceeded to try this one out since it was the only one open when my flight arrived. One of the saddest and worst banh mi sandwiches I have ever tried in my life. I have had far better ones from the refrigerator section of the Asian grocery store. It was hardly substantial in the filling nor was the filling in itself satisfying. Whatever that was there lost its unique flavor. My tofu banh mi sandwich was also smothered in a mayo/ranch-like dressing, making it less and less desirable. It reminded me of burger king's chicken sandwich. After a few bites, I tossed it. I can't speak for any other food items on the menu but purchase and consume at your own risk when it comes to the banh mi! My poor review doesn't end there. The drive through line is tedious. I drove up, ordered at the window and paid. Since nothing else was said, I assumed that I would be receiving my order in a timely fashion and left my car running at the window. Little did I know that I would be waiting there at the window by more than 20 minutes for the sandwiches to come out. Perhaps a better system/flow, customer service by the staffs, and explanation of the process would have greatly informed me of what to expect. Eitherway, I would avoid this establishment if I could, at least until the lobby opens again.

Ok, ok. One star, only because I couldn’t give it zero. Now listen, I’m about to go in and try to be “constructive” at the same time. lol I live one block from this place and have been eating their food for the better part of 5 years. Every year I’ve been coming here less and less because the quality and customer service is on a steep decline. My girlfriend and I have frequented this place 3 times in the last week after not coming for at least two years.

Yesterday, is our last time. We literally tried very hard to be understanding and support this business since it’s close by. Especially, being that there is literally another Vietnamese restaurant 3 blocks away on West Alabama called LUA VIET KITCHEN, which I highly recommend! Lol

So, yesterday we ordered a beef vermicelli and they didn’t even cut the beef into it. They just cooked the wrong meat and tossed it on top. Super lazy.

A couple days before that, I ordered a fried rice and received a completely different menu item that had so much broth at the bottom of the box that the entire meal was soggy and trashed.

And to wrap it all up “constructively” for the owner. Be kind to your customers because a lot of us don’t leave reviews that are a tool for you to improve your business. If you’re short staffed don’t give me attitude at the window when I’m not being rude and you’re telling me you’re there on your own. I don’t care that you can’t get your stove on, just get it together before you open lol simple.

Oh and the wait in your “drive thru” is ridiculously long. I could literally setup camp and watch half an episode of Sunny in Philadelphia before receiving my order. I hope they turn you into a GameStop. That would be...
