You know I’ve been coming here Since high school 18 years ago, I come with the kids now. No matter what I say this place is never gonna go out of business because it’s a staple. But the other day I go in and I made a small order $12 order, usually I spend way more than that a couple times a week whether it’s my family or I’m bringing stuff to work. I gotta pay with my car and it gets declined. I had some kind of hold on my card that I was not aware of that’s never happened before that. I didn’t even expect to happen or else I wouldn’t of. Went somewhere to get food, but then I think you know what not that I have no money that I have this phone maybe I could just come back later and pay it or tomorrow I come here multiple times a week for 20 years right? And if they say no, they say no. The little lady that was helping you could’ve just said no but instead it’s this disrespectful terrible thing she’s acting like I’m this girl or something asking for food. The way she goes about it telling me to check myself before I come in next time and she don’t care, which I understand like I said if they would’ve said no, but she didn’t say no she made it this nasty thing. I’m a chef. I would never go about it like that especially with somebody who’s coming to my business putting money in my business for almost 20 years. That was disgusting and I feel so insulted and I already felt like an idiot because of the situation that I didn’t realize it was happening, but she made it way worse especially as A loyal customer for so long. I love Shipleys, but just for the principal I ain’t coming back...

Donuts are always hot and my special order for a dozen of donuts lightly glazed on one side only has never been an issue. I will always drive to the Ella's Shipley's donut location passing up all the other locations. Thank you for making me always feel welcome!!
TODAY'S POST: TODAY, I went to Shipleys on Ella for my usual, 1 dozen lightly glazed donuts on one side at around 5: 20 p.m. Although I was told there would be a 3 minute wait, I didn't mind because the request was usual. I was talking to the nice lady who waited on me and we talked about euebrows and eyelashes while I waited. After returning home, I tried 1 of the donuts but was unable to eat it because the donuts tasted burnt. Now, if the guy knew the donuts he had already made without any glaze yet was burnt and sitting there, why would you give it to a customer. If he had just told me no to the request instead of giving me burnt tasting donuts, I would have appreciated his honesty and been okay with not ordering donuts. I called back and spoke to the same lady, I had cashier I was talking to, and she pretended not to understand what i was saying about the burnt donuts. After several attempts, she did say to bring the donuts back with the receipt today, but because of traffic and I don't stay close by, I threw the burnt tasting donuts away. Lesson learned, cost $9, Priceless, I will make sure I check everything from this moment...
Read moreI had to to leave a review after reading the weird bad reviews.
If you've ever worked food service, you know how it is when you're getting slammed for hours. And this place gets slammed for hours on end. So yeah you're exhausted. All these complaining about their service. They're just tired, phucking relax. Everyone takes everything so personal.
Those complaining about the taste or whatever. This is one of the best donut shops in Houston. It is the best Shipleys. Its completely unhinged and near psychotic to make a comment about the taste or quality when neither are an issue. Now if you never liked shipleys because you moved here from some Yankee state and miss the so-so food you were being served up there, then youre never going to enjoy Shipley delicious pillows of heaven. So however long you've waited to come back, if you didn't like them 20 or 30 years ago then you won't like them now. To come and leave a bad review because your taste buds are malformed is ridiculous.
This place is great and an Oak Forrest staple. If you like hot and fresh Shipleys donuts then this is the place for you. If youre looking to get your butt kissed and foul Krispy Kreme like donuts then this is not the place for you.
Remember folks, its a donut shop. Its not Starbucks or River Oaks Donuts. Act accordingly. Remember, having champagne taste with beer money will disappoint ya every time. Temper expectations to reality and you'll have a great...
