Spanky's Homemade Pizza & Bar — Restaurant in Houston

I have given Spanky's many chances in the past but they make it very hard to have large orders ready on time. Their website only allows for 11:30am and after for pick-ups. But many times, I have been able to call in and they would say they could have it ready for me at 10:45. Today I called several times starting at 9am and no one answered until 10. After being on hold for 10 mins I had to hangup and call back it, since it was already 10:15am and would have only allowed them a 30 min heads up to make 9 pizzas, I asked to have my order ready at 11am. The lady said that is good and I arrived just before 11am. There were no pizzas in the window, and I stood there waiting for 25 mins, and they gave me all but 1 pizza that still wasn't ready. While I had waited this whole time, I saw 4 different managers and not a single one came and asked me if I needed anything or even tried to help To-Go. When I went back in to wait for my last pizza, a regular waitress of mine and my coworkers finally asked me what was going on. She was nice enough to talk to me and let me know how she can help in the future. Coming from a service background of 10 years, I was surprised that not a single manager stopped to talk to me as I stood for half an hour. And the staff did not even give me an update or apologize for the long wait.

Update I was back today for my other order pick up, and it was ready on time at 10:45. I had made sure to place it the day before and mentioned it to them while I was in, the day prior, to request an earlier pick up. This morning there was a different manager in, and she did help me. All pizzas and other items were ready, and they even had my 2 liters bagged up, which they have not done before. The only accolades that this place has shown me is their “since 1976” sign outside. This was an expensive meal and mostly wasted tonight. This is my second visit here, within three or four month period. After two visits I must state, If you decide to eat here, play it safe on any menu choices with their tried and true menu items. And say you go there for takeout, like me today on April 2, 2022. It is best to choose one of their signature pizzas and a salad or a pasta entree, if you feel lucky. That is for your concern, towards dipping into your bank account, For little to nothing back. Today, everything fried I ordered tasted stale, not fresh, i.e. the batter on the menu item, fried mushrooms, which were less than average. In taste and in size. Very plain Jane. I threw more than half of the fried mushrooms away.

The fries that come with the philly cheese steak also were limp cold and stale tasting. I ate the gooey cheesy (not good and cheesy), So called Philly steak sandwich and threw more than half the fries away. This sandwich was on the smaller sub side, and tasted less than average. At least it was hot by temperature only, however a bad choice made for a specialty sandwich like that type of sub sandwich was chosen here. I also ordered the grilled shrimp salad with a side of ranch, which was near runny like watery. I ate the shrimp and the bill for $33! And threw out the rest so as not to have heartburn.

Consider this place more like a drinking establishment with bar vittles. Similar to a sports bar and grill, and not a restaurant that serves any healthy meals. Try elsewhere for your beef and veggie needs. All the best to your health and wellness, and in your...

Spanky’s is one of those spots you can always count on! The music is always on point never too loud never too soft just the right vibe every time. Food consistently comes out in a decent time hot and fresh and I’ve never had a single issue in all the years I’ve been coming here. The staff is always kind and welcoming, which really makes the difference. Bathrooms? Always clean. Prices? Totally reasonable not dramatic at all especially for adults grabbing a meal and a drink. They’ve got a nice little bar area and lots of TVs, so whether it’s a game or something else important you’ll always have a screen in sight. Definitely one of my go to spots!

UPDATE: 7/2025I just went to Spanky‘s again yesterday and it was extremely busy it was in the evening. There was an Astros game on and I have to make this edit because their bathroom was so clean. I think there’s a rule or something if an employee goes to the bathroom. They have to make sure that the bathroom is tidy because I witnessed an employee refilling the soap and wiping down the counter after she came out of the bathroom stall. Everyone is doing their job there regardless of how busy it is. Everybody is doing a little bit of extra whether it’s picking up a piece of napkin or paper off the floor. The entire floor is just decent. Food comes out in a great time, TVs are just everywhere. I was just so glad to be at a place where I know the bathroom is clean. Kitchen is clean. Everything is just great music is going, but not too too loud so you can still enjoy the atmosphere the game conversation at your table and the music playing.
