Pauline was very rude when I called to inquire about prenatal yoga. One of my first questions was whether my husband could join the class as this was something we were wanting to do together. I was told that she would not want the other women to feel uncomfortable, very different from the "we only have a limited number of spots" that she claims to have said in her response to my post. Additionally, the client intake form was described more as an exclusive club for which entry from your highness must be granted. If they don't accept certain people with pre-existing conditions why not just ask over the phone like everyone else does? It is yoga, not skydiving Pauline. Needless to say, we found another very open and accepting place for all of our prenatal yoga needs that my husband could join and learn the techniques along with me. Oh and I just remembered, she also told me that she was the best yoga teacher in all of...
Read moreI moved to Houston a year ago and found Pauline's yoga studio almost immediately. Pauline is an expert teacher of the Iyengar style of yoga, which focuses on proper alignment and technique. So while I enjoy other styles of yoga, I make a point of attending Pauline's class at least once a week: What I learn from her helps keep me safe when I practice in the large, unsupervised classes I take at my gym. Pauline is herself and attentive and nurturing teacher. Her studio is peaceful and clean--fully equipped, so no need to schlep your own mat. She makes use of her rope wall, thanks to which I (who am still unable to do head/handstands) have been able to experience the benefits of hanging upside down! I highly recommend that you come and practice at Alcove Yoga with Pauline and the other two instructors who work with her, even if you don't live in the Heights. It's...
Read moreI took virtual classes with Pauline throughout my pregnancy, and the body awareness and breathing practices that I learned in her class were instrumental for my relatively smooth and speedy delivery! Pauline is extremely knowledgeable and direct, offering excellent cues and targeted corrections - even over Zoom, with 5-15 people in class. I was fairly new to Iyengar Yoga (yoga in general!), and her directives and examples were easy to follow, and it helped that she regularly highlighted students who were doing the poses well, so that I could see how the poses looked through different practitioners. She also offers recordings for at-home practice. Beyond being an excellent yoga practice, Pauline's class became a lifeline for me through my first pregnancy, as a way to engage with other expectant mothers during the pandemic, trading symptoms and tips. I...
