Tarascos Ice Cream — Restaurant in Houston

From the outside, this place won’t catch your attention, so I feel lucky to have found it! It was so hot outside so I was looking for somewhere nice and cool to hang out with my husband on his lunch break. This may be our new spot! I didn’t get any pictures, but it was adorable inside with a spacious, comfortable seating area. The ladies working were friendly and allowed us to bring our lunch in and eat before we ordered. There were so many options, not just ice cream (I want to try the fruit tacos!), but we both got a 3-scoop bowl and it was a lot of ice cream! I have celiac, and they had plenty of gluten free options, although I’m not sure how safe they are from cross contamination. Nothing is labeled gluten free, but the employee was knowledgeable about ingredients. One of the flavors I tried was queso fresco, and I really liked it and its unique texture. I have been to this place few times over the years, and found it very good. Today we came in and ordered 4 orders of single scoops in cups. Three of them were Mango flavored. We all found the Mango Ice Cream to be flavorless . Two in my group were just going to order something different and pay for them. I spoke with the young man at the counter and I explained that I wanted to exchange mine for something different. He went to the back and spoke with the manager. He came back and said that the manager said if I wanted some else I would be welcome to pay for it. I told him that that was unacceptable and not to worry I will never come back. What they don't know is I have told dozens of people about that place over the years and from now on I will only share my bad experience with everyone. This used to be one of our favorite dessert spots; we're regular customers, and often recommend this place to friends. However, we were just outright refused service by the server (we didn't get her name, but she's the one who was working at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 17th), because she "had a big order" and claimed the wait time was to be served was 20 minutes! This took place when we were the only customers in the shop. Waiting twenty minutes in an empty shop for someone to scoop ice cream into a cup is an egregious ask.

That server is rudeness personified. We've had a bad experience with her before; last weekend, she attempted to charge us $70 for a half gallon of ice cream, and also violated health codes by initially using a container that had fallen on the floor.
