Our waitress/server Rose...positive first pancakes best I have ever tasted in Houston. Side of pancakes $8.00 portion 3 pancakes probably cake plate in size if not smaller. Breakfast eggrolls $14 two eggrolls cut in half. Side of bacon that I was told by Rose that I ordered was $6.00 for 3 strips. Let's get to why I give them a one star inspite of...The other guest in my party ordered the Sunrise Continental $24. I vaguely heard them discussing how and what she wanted. Sausage bacon no grits etc I really wasn't listening. She got done I ordered. Food came out quickly. There was a side of bacon we assumed that was with her Continental. She didn't want it so I ate the bacon. Bill time comes and I have a side of bacon. I asked Rose who ordered bacon? You did. Huh, no I didn't. Rose and I went back and forth about this bacon. Rose said she would get her manager. ROSE COMES BACK and says manager doesn't have time to deal with this so here is your $8 back. Huh? No, I am trying to understand who ordered bacon? Did I order bacon? Long story short Rose proceeds to say we see you on camera eating the bacon. I said I never said I didn't eat the bacon. I am asking who ordered the bacon? You can't see someone eating something and assume and put it on their bill. Clearly the bacon was an accident and wasn't supposed to be for our table. Instead of just saying that for an employee Rose to bluntly lie and tell me i ordered bacon is insane. My order was real simple breakfast eggrolls and a side of potatoes. The side of potatoes didn't come with our food so i switched potatoes for pancakes. Which makes me believe the kitchen got the side of wrong. Instead of potatoes they sent bacon. Again, no bigger just express the mix up and let's get it right. But to charge me for the kitchen or whoever mistake or mix up and lie and say i ordered bacon is craziness. And this manager that didn't come out when Rose said she would get her manager is again insane. I am willing to bet behind this establishment are African Americans and/or this manager is AA. Our people just can not and if so rarely get it right. Their thrist and greed for the money instead of focusing on customer service and a pleasant experience is WHY every other race out does them and their business outlast our people's businesses. I said what i said. Definitely wil not be returining. Consider...
Read moreDo NOT order a Dirty Chai Latte at Sunrise House unless you want to pay $11 for 8oz of dirty water!!! Plus mandatory 20% gratuity no matter how small or large your party is, and you are only allowed 2 hour time limit at the restaurant.
With all the wonderful reviews my friends and I expected a great experience at The Sunrise House. Started off good with super sweet Maitres d'. We were greeted by our server when we got seated and we proceeded to order our drinks while we review the menu. I asked if they could make me a dirty chai as they had Chai Tea on the menu. Our server said yes and so I ordered a hot Dirty Chai (chai latte with a shot of espresso) with almond milk. It took our server over 20 mins to bring my dirty chai and my friend's Diet Coke. My small 8oz cup of Dirty Chai arrived cold and watery. No milky foam on the top. It looked and tasted like brewed coffee. I let it pass as it was already took so long for the drinks to arrive and we had not ordered our food. We finally ordered our food 30 mins after getting seated. The food came after another 30 mins. The food was good. We ordered the Coastal Sunrise, the Sunflower Club, and the Sunrise Continental. But considering the restaurant was not super packed, service should have been better. We did not see our server except when she took our order and dropped off the drinks and food.
When our bills finally came, I was appalled by the cost of my hot Dirty Chai. My 8oz hot dirty chai cost me $11. I was fine with my entrees costing around $25 each, but $11 for my small cold cup of dirty chai was atrocious. I even ordered the Waffle Delights (Chicken and Waffles) to go for my son, and laughed when I looked into the to go box and saw a small cup of Smuckers Breakfast Syrup as the maple syrup served with the meal. One would think for $25 for 4 quarter slices of waffle and 4 pieces of chicken strip you can give me better syrup than Smuckers artificial syrup.
My 2 friends and I agreed. The food wasn't bad, but I get much better service, food and definitely lattes at other similar breakfast/ brunch places like Dandelion Cafe, Eloise Nichols and Bosscat Kitchen. NOT WORTH RETURNING.
PS. Came home and double check the prices on their website. They charged me $1 more for the espresso and $1 more on chai tea than what is on the menu.
Note: Total on the receipt is only my meal. My friends and I each had a...
Read moreI’m going to start with the cons before the pros because I like to end on positive notes. I went to their website to make a reservation only to find out LATE that you can’t make reservations from the website and have to use an app instead. They emailed me which went unnoticed instead of calling me like I asked them to.
My party of 7 had to be walk ins so we came at 11 AM because we wanted to eat at noon. We were told there would be an hour wait and a $50 minimum per person (something that was brand new news to me). It was too late to go anywhere else so we stayed and waited, and I informed them one person was on the way but would be there before the hour wait time was up (because we wanted to eat at noon).
35 minutes later they seat us and then we were informed that there is a 2 hour limit to sit at the table AFTER we were brought our drinks. I asked why they seated us if they knew I was waiting on one more person. The server said he didn’t have an answer for that and wasn’t aware I had told the hostess I was still waiting for someone.
Irritation already set in and the last person to arrive showed up about 5 minutes after that. They were out of apple juice so our last guest settled for pineapple juice.
Aaron was our server and he was very pleasant and attentive. He was also very apologetic about all the misunderstanding and tried to explain on the hostess and websites behalf but quite honestly we just wanted to eat and go at that point. No fault to Aaron because he was great…it wasn’t his fault and we didn’t want to take our frustration out on him.
We ordered two bottles of Prosecco with cranberry and pineapple juice, a couple of shrimp and grits, avocado toast, a couple of power bowls, a fruit bowl, and I forgot what else but I will say the food was EXCELLENT.
The establishment is a boutique style art deco restaurant that is decorated very beautifully, and they offer compliment valet parking. The valet attendants work on tips and they are very pleasant. The outside is also decorated with a beautiful mural perfect for taking pictures while you wait.
Would I go back? Maybe if I were meeting one or two people, but definitely not for a large party of people. It was...
