I paid $25 to have all you can eat crawfish and the batches all came out diff. I came with a group and everyone agreed that there were a few that were under cooked and some that were over cooked. There was also a batch that had under cooked garlic as well and after the second batch they also said there weren't anymore potatoes. We then decided to take one of the trays to them to see if we could get a better batch. The lady that we spoke to was extremely rude considering we were paying customers. She immediately had an attitude and continued to say she was a licensed chef and she knows how to cook crawfish. I eat crawfish often so I know what is good and what isn't edible. That is very unprofessional and inconsiderate considering we paid for this non flavored under and overcooked crawfish. I could have took my money else where and got more for my money and a top of the line service. There was a guy that was nice enough to fix my friend another batch and the bartenders are really nice and professional but thanks to the pink headed lady with hot roots the bar won't be getting my service anymore, well for any type of food service. On a scale of 1-10 overall I'd say a 6 because I'm still hungry and can't get my money back. If anyone is looking for some great crawfish in this area BB's Cafe and LA Crawfish have some...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying West Alabama Ice House is my local bar so I'm a tad biased.
With that said, they have a very laid back atmosphere that is the best representation of Houston's diversity, a microcosm to itself. It's a great place for events, to watch any game in any sport, or just have a chill conversation with some delicious tacos from the famous tacos tierras caliente.
They serve a wide selection of beer but also wine, cider, and soda. Food wise, they don't prepare anything themselves, making it a perfect BYOM (Bring Your Own Meal), opting to have a food truck, or get some tacos from iconic taco truck across the street (FYI taco truck is cash only) . At night you have a couple street vendors selling tamales that are cash only.
West Alabama Ice House has put in a lot of work over the years to make its location even more welcoming. They improved the wooden seating in the uncovered spaces. For winter they added heat lamps and vinyl wrapping around the main covered area which makes the cold winters bearable (the few times a year we get those). For summer they added misting fans to make our summer heat bearable.
In short if you're visiting from out of town you should definitely check it out for a truly...
Read moreIf you're looking for a true Houston experience, look no further than the Alabama Ice House - the oldest ice house in the city! This place is a true gem, and has a history that's as rich as the beer they serve.
Walking into the Alabama Ice House is like stepping back in time. The building itself has a rustic charm that's hard to find in modern bars, and the beer is served straight out of an ice chest. You won't find any fancy cocktails here - just ice-cold beer and good company.
But don't let the no-frills atmosphere fool you - the Alabama Ice House has a loyal following for good reason. The beer is always cold, the staff is friendly, and the outdoor seating area is perfect for enjoying a Houston evening.
Overall, I highly recommend the Alabama Ice House for anyone looking for a true Houston experience. It's a piece of history that's still going strong, and it's the perfect spot for a cold beer and good conversation with friends. Come for the beer, stay for...
