I believe it was 1976 when it opened. I lived in Huber Heights and I was just a kid. My mom worked at Stumps and she would always bring home a Christy's after work. At least that was what it was named back then. The pizza became a big hit in our family. And it continued to be until we moved to SC in 1981. My Dad and I are huge sprint car fans and we always went to Eldora at least once a year, even when we moved to SC. Prior to going to the track we would always stop at Christy's and get a pizza. "If the race gets rained out, at least we will get a Christy's" was our mantra. The thought of a Christy’s pizza made the eight-hour drive more tolerable. My dad quit going with me many years ago, but I continued to go to Eldora and at least once year I would end up at Christy's, more recently right at 4:00 because I had to get the track by 6:00! Over the years I was able to bring my wife and my two children to Christy's and they agree there is something about the taste and certainly the atmosphere there that is special. I still live in SC, but I have been to Christy’s at least once a year for 44 years straight. Unfortunately, that steak has come to an end due to COVID. So, not knowing if they are still opened or closed, I at least wanted to say that the pizza at Christy’s, now called Classic, is exceptional and has been for many years. I have travelled the world and have yet to find anything close. Maybe it is because the joint takes me back to my youth. Who knows? My wish is that by next summer I will have been vaccinated, and when I pull into that old strip mall off Taylorsville, Classic Pizza will have their...
Read moreUsually, their pizza is really good, but.. The past two times we have ordered from them, the service has been HORRIBLE. Told us our pizza would be ready in 50 minutes, showed up 15 minutes early to get our pizza and received it cold. The last order we placed, we noticed once we got home that we received the wrong pizza. This was after reiterating what I had ordered to the person ringing me up at the register. No big deal because there were two orders placed were under the same name. The issue I have is that when I called to tell them this, they told us they would make us another one. Great, I even offered to go get it myself. Showed up and returned them the wrong pizza to be met with what I believe is the worst customer service: upon talking to the manager, there was no apology, and he told me that I actually owed him $2. The money is not an issue, the audacity to ask your customer to pay a difference in a mistake the business has caused is the issue. Lastly, the pizza we received was not a new one made!! It was the same one from the previous order. I know this because the pizza was cold and soggy and our bread sticks were also cold. Note: The manager didn't appear to be over 20 years old along with most of the workers there. Not that I don't think there are competent 20 year old workers, just not that one. When we called the second time to inform him, he seemed clueless and apparently forgot that he said he would make us another one. Needless to say, I think we are done with this place. Which is a shame because it is so...
Read moreWe were in town for a few days and decided to grab a pizza to take back to the hotel. Did the usual Google search and chose this place because of its 4.6 star rating.
First, I was startled at having to pay $16 and change ($20 with a tip) for a large 2 item thin crust pizza. But, hey, with a 4.6 rating, I knew it must be well worth the money. Maybe there are coupons available locally that bring the price down to a reasonable level, idk.
Got it back to the hotel, opened the box and I immediately regretted my purchase. The bottom of the crust was really dark, and the edges were burnt to a crisp. One side was overloaded with canned mushrooms (I expect fresh shrooms for that price), and the other side had a few specks of diced onion. By a few specks, I mean 15 to be precise. The pepperoni, at least, was fine.
Worst of all, it really just didn't have any flavor. It was probably the blandest pizza I ever had the misfortune of eating. But we were hungry so we soldiered on and ate it. About an hour later, I was popping antacids like candy, which I fortunately remembered to stick in my suitcase. So to sum it up, I'm giving a 1 for value, a 2 for quality (it's not the absolute worst pizza I've ever eaten) and a 5 for service, which was really quite good.
I can only assume that people in this area have a much different opinion as to what makes a good pizza than we do...
