Well, I STUPIDLY came back 1/9/25 and got embroiled into yet another fiasco at this store. Used Self Checkout. It only spit out a torn fragment of my receipt, (see pic). Nobody attending the self checkout machines at ~1600. So, I went to Customer Service. Four people ahead of me, one (heroic) employee serving. 10 minutes later still 4 people ahead of me. The Self Checkout attendant came back. I asked for help. He REALLY tried.
BUT the @$÷× computer on the checkout point of sale robot only let him go back one previous receipt, which was no longer mine as people used the machine while I stood interminably in the checkout line. He said I had to go back to the customer service desk.
Now I have returned to the customer service desk. Finally got to the front of the line. Felicia, the hardworking Customer Service lady said only a manager could go back more than to the previous receipt. She tried to summon a manager who said they could not come because they must stand "somebody fell" watch at the door. It is now 16:23 and she still is trying to summon a manager.
I don't even think I can legally take MY stuff out without a valid receipt to prove it's paid for. So I continue to stand and wait.. . .
At 16:33 Felicia gave up trying to get a proper manager to help us. She offered to walk me out without any receipt. I agreed if she'd sign a note saying I'd paid, which she did. At 16:39 I got my stuff into my car.
I managed global service support for a great big piece of a Fortune 500 Company for 20 years. From that perspective, THESE are the root causes of this fiasco:
The Meijer employees who run the checkout process are far from sufficiently empowered to do their jobs. For goodness' sakes, even gas station attendants can reliably reprint your receipt when the point of sale machine fails to give you your receipt. I suspect Meijer is unwilling to trust its employees with enough responsibility to actually DO their jobs. So, Meijer is putting the needed responsibilities onto managers WITHOUT ENOUGH MANAGERS to do the job.
I HATE MEIJER for being WAY too hard to do business with! How it unfavorably contrasts with Lowes and Walmart, who are almost always nearly effortless to go in, get your stuff, pay for it, and get out.
~3 years previous: Wanted 3 liters of peanut oil for my deep fryer. This frustrating store only had it in tiny little bottles! How useless is THAT?
And I started out so happy that I could at last shop for myself now that I got my Covid-19 vaccination. No more buying everything from Amazon!
But since my FORMER grocer didn't have a simple item in a reasonable size, I wasted my time AND my gas! To add Insult to injury, I sat in the Meijer parking lot and ordered what I wanted from Amazon, to be...
Read moreThey cancelled the Meijer RX app and added a Dexcom receiver back on my prescriptions, which I don't need since I already have one. My wife picked up my prescriptions today and they included this receiver and I was charged for it. When I called and asked about returning this since it was NOT SUPPOSE listed on my prescriptions and they told me it was removed, I was told "once it leave the pharmacy it is yours." I asked to speak to the manager, whose name is Ethan but was told he was not around and they couldn't not let me know when he would be in but thought he was going on vacation now. I asked for a call back ASAP on this since this was a mistake THEY MADE, I am assuming because they retired the Meijer RX app on July 1st. So, let's see if they actually fix this issue. What would happen if they gave me the wrong medication? Would they not take that bad as well?
The manager called me and said they would not be able to take back the Decom receiver but offered a $20 coupon, which is fine. I will be taking the receiver to my doctor and having them give it to a patient that could use it.
So, just be aware of any order you pick up or order to ensure it is what you want and are suppose to get since once you take...

There are regular price discrepancies on sale items. Some I can catch at checkout. And just when I think I caught them all, I get home and find another missed sale price on the receipt.
Be vigilant about knowing what you SHOULD pay versus what they charge you. They're making a LOT of money off those who don't pay attention.
Customer service is also lacking among many of the employees here. They treat customers like we're bothering them or like we're idiots. Deli staff shut down the machines before the deli closes and won't help customers. One of the managers is always trying to rush through any ounce of help they provide as though they have something more important to do.
Today, our cashier was holding a conversation with the employees at the aisle next to him while he finished bagging our groceries. Never said "goodbye" or even "thank you." Kept talking with them.
Yes, I could do self-checkout, but I'd need an employee to fix the prices every other item.
The company slogan "customers don't need us, we need them" seems to be lost at this store.
