I was coming back from dallas during a wonderful morning when I realized that I didn't grab no breakfast to hold me over on the road. I looked around and didn't notice anything that pleased my craving for a good whole some breakfast. When you're out of town you want something new and a place where it doesn't exist any where else. Driving on the highway I see a sign to exit for a waffle house. Not really what I was looking for but I had to grab something to eat. Well as I pulled onto the service road I noticed a building with numerous cars and seemed like a interesting place to stop and eat. As I'm walking up to the door I observe sign that reads only cash. Dont know if their card machine was down but luckily I had cash if not no worries they have a atm inside which charges you a service fee which I'm not a fan of. I sit down and not even 2 mins pass and I'm greeted by a very humble server who takes my drink order and hands me a menu. I look over the breakfast and see a meal that grabs my attention. The chicken fried steak with eggs and your choice of toast or biscuits and gravy. Well come on you have to dive in order the biscuits and gravy no doubt. I placed my order and reasonable amount of time my food is served on a platter with over easy eggs on a plate with hashbrowns. On the other plate a hand breaded chicken fried steak smothered in gravy and last but not least the biscuits and gravy. I dove right in and enjoyed the taste of the home cook meal. I enjoyed the taste of the gravy which was creamy and hash browns that were nice crisp. The biscuits were enjoyable as I ate those last. At the very end I was handed my ticket and went on my way to pay. The enviroment was very pleasing and service was vibrant. My down fall and only complaint is cash only. Not too many carry cash but luckily I had some on me. The price was very good for the amount I had as well. I will be stopping by here again on...
Read moreTo be short and sweet, don't come here. This place looks as good as the food is! Run down and unsatisfactory. And the enviroment, beside one young waitress is unpleasant as can be. But heres my full review: My experience going to lunch here at 6 was less than satisfactory. Me and 2 of my friends came in, and we're not greeted by anyone at all, when we sat ourselves. We came in in medical masks because our friend had a small cold, and we didnt want to catch it. The first person to show up was some lady asking if we were sick. No hi hello, just that. Then walked off when we told her our friend had a cold today. The older lady who approached after her didn't seem to understand the question of, "what drinks do you have" and honestly seemed peeved that we asked. And when told what drinks we would like, walked off and the waitress that followed asked us the same question, and of course we informed her her coworker got our drink order. Well turns out the older lady who took our drinks order didnt remember and apparently didnt communicate the drinks to the lady, as if she didnt care. ( theres no wall and I saw her behind us, not communicate to the younger employee and her careless attitude). Anyways to the food! The " homemade" chili was in no way or form homemade. And I will swear to the end of my days. It was just canned hormel chili and it came out lukewarm with a side of soggy cornbread muffins. Yet it costed me 6$. It was laughable. Thro throughout our entire meal the lady who frist apporched us stared at at uss from the register, and as we checked out we were given no thank you or anything. Infact she seemed irritated that we were even here. So to wrap up. The only person worth the experience was the young burgundy haired waitress, her cheery fun atittude was the only redeemable quality of this R&k Cafe. I will never be coming back here...
Read moreWe came across this cafe by chance when looking for some place for breakfast on our way to Abilene. It's quite inside from Interstate 20, so not much visible.
Food: Overall, the food was good. Not so amazing but good enough to make a nice breakfast. However, the coffee didn't taste great and lacked the morning kick that normally coffees have at other breakfast places. We ordered Vegetable Omelette with hashbrowns and toast and a waffle. Omelette was nice, a little less on salt - we had to add salt and pepper. Hashbrowns were fine too. Toast was a little less toasted. Waffle was great.
Ambiance: This place gives a real Texas feeling with it's interiors. You can see wall paintings of cowboys all over the place. The lighting is less for a breakfast place. Natural light is zero which doesn't really wake you up but puts you back to sleep.
Service: Service was good. The lady perhaps quickly understood that we are the "no meat" people, so she suggested and clarified on the non-meat options for us, which was nice. Food came in quite quickly, so there wasn't much of a waiting time. Just one caveat, they don't accept credit cards, so you may carry cash or pull it out from an ATM outside.
Overall, a nice place if you're tired and want to have a decent breakfast before you hit...
