Disappointing First and Last Visit to New City Microcreamery
My recent visit to New City Microcreamery was unfortunately quite underwhelming, and I must admit it will be my first and last time visiting this establishment. While the ice cream itself was decent, the overall experience left much to be desired.
Upon entering, I couldn't help but feel a sense of bad vibes in the air. It's always disheartening when the ambiance of a place doesn't match your expectations, and that was certainly the case here. However, my main concern was with the service I received.
The worker who attended to me seemed less than thrilled to assist, as I stumbled over the pronunciation of a flavor. Instead of offering a friendly correction, she responded with a snobby attitude that made me feel unwelcome. Later, when I asked for the flavor in a cone, I was met with the explanation that it had a crumbly consistency, and therefore, had to be served in a cup. While I understood the reasoning, the delivery felt condescending.
To add to my disappointment, as she scooped the ice cream into the cup, I noticed that the amount was far from generous. Politely, I asked if I could have a full scoop, as it appeared to be significantly less than what I had anticipated for the price I was paying. Unfortunately, my request was declined, with the explanation that the ice cream's crumbly texture made it difficult to scoop any further.
Despite these shortcomings, I must admit that the half scoop of ice cream I received was enjoyable in terms of taste. However, when considering the price tag of $8 for what felt like an inadequate portion, I couldn't help but question its value.
All in all, my experience at New City Microcreamery was far from satisfactory. The negative vibes, combined with the unhelpful and snobby attitude of the worker, left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. While the ice cream itself showed some promise, the overall experience fell short, making it unlikely that I will be returning or recommending this place to others.

Read moreOur family came here based on the reviews and we all agreed we'd NEVER come back here again. Why?
The ice cream tasted pretty decent, but not out of this world. I've had better. The sizes are so tiny, even tinier than the other hoity-toity or "bougie" places around Boston. They actually WEIGH the ice cream, counting the exact ounces they scoop into a tiny cup. My wife and son both got "1 scoop" which was a crazy $6, but the person gave my son a "kiddie" size, which was even tinier than the 1 scoop (it was probably 3 tablespoons of ice cream), and when we pointed out the obvious difference in size, she started by defending the place saying the smaller scoop was "denser". To her credit, after a tense 15 seconds, she weighed the smaller one and admitted it was undersized. At the checkout, the cashier asked us for the name of each flavor we got and entered it into the terminal. Ridiculously tedious when they have a long line of people waiting.
We left the place with an awful experience. I know it wasn't the ice cream scooper's fault, it's probably the owner for micromanaging the staff and not allowing them to just make customers happy.
MY RESPONSE TO THE OWNERS COMMENT: That's just corporate speak for being stingy. If you really want your employees to be so exact, then you should have an actual display of how much ice cream you get in a given size. If I had seen that size I would have left the place immediately. It feels worse to feel like you're going to get a heaping scoop and then you get a scoop that doesn't even...
Read moreMy family stopped in for dessert after dinner at Rail Trail to celebrate my birthday. It was a long wait -- I'm assuming they were short staffed like so many places are these days, no big deal. I have allergies and know they need to do extra prep so when it was finally our turn, I ordered last so my family could sit down and take a few bites while they waited. Right after the scooper did all the allergy prep to scoop my ice cream (hand washing, new gloves, etc) they were asked to stop what they were doing and immediately restock spoons, which the cashier was frustrated about having to hand out individually. The scooper did try to explain that they were in the middle of our order but was told to do it anyway. The spoon dispenser requires they be loaded in one by one, so I had to sit there for over 10 additional minutes while they loaded up spoons and then go through the whole allergy prep process over again before scooping, while other customers paid, got their orders, and were handed spoons. My family finished their ice cream well before I made it to the table. If they had scooped my order first it would have maybe delayed the spoons two more minutes? While I'm sure it's frustrating to have to hand out spoons to each customer, it's even more frustrating to have your birthday dessert with your family ruined.
Two stars because the ice...
