I've been to the Smilin' Moose many times and have always had good experiences, which is the only reason I am giving 2 stars. I had a very poor experience on 4/16. A few friends and I went out for dinner and drinks around 8 PM. The restaurant was decently busy but not packed and we didn't have to wait for a table. Everyone at our table ordered water and my friend ordered a vodka Sprite. The waitress brought 5 out of the 6 waters that were needed and my friend's drink was wrong, not a huge deal. She replaced the drink when she returned to our table to take our food order.
We then ordered 3 appetizers: 2 poutine and 1 order of nachos. We waited for 30+ minutes until 1 order of poutine came out. I had to seek out a hostess to get plates, napkins, and silverware. 25 minutes passed and we still hadn't received the rest of our food. Our waitress finally came back to check on us and we advised her that our other food still hadn't come out yet. Her response was: "I hate working here." She talked to the kitchen and said our food was "overlooked" but she put in the order again. 10 minutes later she returns to our table with ONLY the nachos. We told her we were still waiting on our other order of poutine so she went back to the kitchen again.
Finally all of our food came out, over an hour later, even though half of us had already eaten. The entire evening, our waitress did not ask if we needed anything else or how everything was tasting. Rather than sitting and waiting for her to refill our drinks most of us opted to go up to the bar and order from there instead- most of the time she was too busy socializing with other diners. Based on our experience and the inconveniences, we asked her if some of our food could be comped. She placed all blame on the bartenders/kitchen and talked about how much she hated her job, even though her service the entire night was also mediocre. We did get 1 free order of poutine but my friends who were the ones waiting for 45 minutes had to pay for theirs. When it was time to pay she basically threw our receipts at us and her body language said it all.
In total, we sat for 2.5 hours waiting for 3 appetizers, which is unacceptable. Every single person sitting at our table had previous experience working in the service industry so we completely understood that it was a little busy and not every issue we had was out waitress's fault. However, we did not appreciate the attitude toward us and our experience really put a damper on the beginning of...
Read moreMy crew left this place with less than a smile. While visiting from Alabama on 7/15/20 with some of my friends and some friends from Minnesota we decided to try out the Smilin Moose. I should lead with the fact it was approximately 830pm and the restaurant was nearly empty. At the start our waiter Landon was amazing. After ordering our drinks and food we noticed a Touch Tunes machine on the wall. Since we had all come together for a music event we thought it fitting to play some music. We took turns suggesting songs and built up a smaller playlist that had approximately 10 songs on it. After about 5 songs the manager came to our table and said "are you the ones playing music on touch tunes". We replied, of course, with yes. He then proceeded to say that he was "hearing a lot of metal music" (he was) and that it was family hour and could we just hold off adding anymore music and let what we had on our list just play out. Frustrated, we agreed and did not add any other songs to our playlist as he requested. When our 3rd to last song started to play, the bartender was told to unplug the machine and she did. Even after doing what was requested of us we were still punished for "a lot of metal music" in addition to losing the credits in Touch Tunes. Agreeably those credits did not cost much money and this review is not about money. It is about the fact we felt "targeted" because of the music we were playing. If you do not want that type of music played in your establishment then take it off your selections or turn it off during "family time". The icing on the cake is when the same manager brought out one of our meals he announced "hamburger, no bun"......................... it was a sirloin steak!!! Learn your menu sir and respect everyone's choice in music else remove the machine. A complaint has also been entered with Touch Tunes about your...
Read moreWell, it’s in Wisconsin, so I can’t say that I’m surprised by what happened during our experience. We were sat at our table, and My family and I, who are distinctly of Hispanic descent, waited for about forty minutes without ever being asked for even our drink orders. Refraining from assuming the worst, we stayed, thinking that because it was a Saturday, they were just busy with the packed crowd on hand (Afterall, it’s a bar, and we arrived at around 9:40 in the evening). We waited until about ten o’clock to finally ask someone to take our order. The young lady asserted that she would have our waiter come to us. However, we are under the impression that the young lady was in fact our waiter, as she served the numerous tables that surrounded us and was the only person available. We waited another twenty minutes, and still nothing. The waiter even walked by us a few times after she supposedly went to “call over our waiter.” At around 10:25, we had no other choice but to leave the establishment. We were incredibly flustered and disappointed by what had transpired.
As blunt as these following words may seem, it’s the truth: for the white customers who ever get a chance to read this review, this truly doesn’t concern you in any way, because regardless of the prejudice that this establishment holds for others, you will still be the one’s who will keep the Smilin’ Moose afloat. This is directed towards those who are minorities when I say don’t give them a single dime. Please, do not subject yourselves to the uncomfortable feeling that comes with being surrounded around people who will go to any length to make sure you know that you are different. As the only three people of color present at the time, we felt extremely uneasy, and that is simply how it is designed to be.
To put in my native tongue, NO LE DES TU DINERO A...
