We were visiting Wisconsin and decided that we wanted to try to find a local place to eat breakfast and when I googled local restaurants for breakfast, this was the first one that came up.

After looking at the reviews we decided this would be a good place to go for breakfast so we decided to meet up and it was about 9:30 in the morning.

We walked in and we were greeted by a gentleman that told us that we were free to seed ourselves wherever we wanted to sit and as soon as we sat down we were handed menus and our drink order was taken in which our drinks were delivered right away.

When we place the order our waiter had accidentally typed in the wrong thing into the computer and when we notified him he made it right right away and then we were also able to purchase the wrong item for half price.

All of the stuff up there was very friendly and our waiter was right on top of stuff. He came to our table just the right amount of times to check and see if there was anything else that we needed.

I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a place to eat. The food was hot, fresh...

Inside’s a Win, Patio’s a Pass

I’ve been to The Main Plate about five times now, and overall, it’s a solid choice. The food has always been good and consistent, with average portion sizes and a well-rounded menu. The atmosphere inside is cozy and inviting, and the staff is typically friendly and attentive—especially when dining indoors. I’ve always appreciated the little touches, like frequent coffee refills, which go a long way.

That said, my most recent visit left a bit to be desired. I was seated on the patio, and unfortunately, the experience just didn’t match what I’ve come to expect from dining inside. The service was noticeably slower, and I never got a refill on my coffee—which is something that’s always been a highlight for me indoors. The patio feels more like an afterthought than an extension of the dining experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

So, if you’re headed to The Main Plate (and you should), try to get a table inside. It makes a big difference.

Wish I would have taken some pictures but unfortunately...

So the vibe is upbeat and the place is simply just an all around fine place to have a meal. I can only report on breakfast. The food was tasty, portions were fair for the price and the service was fantastic. The servers are busy, but always trying to keep your glass full and their fun and energetic and there is a real positive energy in the place that they help to supply. To be fair, the place isn't huge. So, sometimes you have to wait to be seated. Also, it can get noisy. This is not the place to go if your looking for solitude. But, if your looking for a small breakfast place where the staff are energetic, fun, sometimes even playful and the food is good and the prices are reasonable in a town like Hudson then Main plate just may be your next spot to...

Service and atmosphere good but food not so much. Been here twice and im just not impressed for the price. Ordered steak and eggs with hash browns. Asked for medium rare and it came out medium well. It was so tough and chewy that I could not finish it and used lots of napkins to spit out the un-chewable parts. Ketchup has high fructose which I do not like at all. Most cheap ketchup got rid of that ingredient. First time I had the french toast special and it just tasted so bland. Did not taste any nutmeg or cinnamon. No actual half and half which is crazy in a diner. They only have artificial shelf steady half and half. The best thing here was the mini donuts.

Updated review: Have been a dozen times since and have never had a bad experience. We are always greeted with a smile and the food is always superb! Delicious food with a lovely atmosphere! Everything you’d want from a breakfast spot: hot coffee, strong breakfast drinks, and delicious flavorful breakfasts. We enjoyed the mini donuts (state fair quality), the Sammie, Mexican hash, and biscuits and gravy. We also had the mimosa bar which was so tasty and fun. Our only feedback was some drinks didn’t have prices so our mimosa bar bill came as a bit of a shock($40). We could have asked but it would have been nice to know. Will definitely come again!
