I really really wanted to like this place. As HB locals, we like to frequent our downtown and Pacific City restaurants and support our local business owners. We were very excited and loved the view and ambience of this restaurant. The servers were nice and we ordered 6 oysters on the half shell, the rack of lamb, two Kobe burgers with fries and a mint julep for me. The drink arrived (now I’m a bourbon and scotch person anyway) but it was extremely sour. I tried to get ahold of a server but it seemed to take a very long time. I had approximately 8+ servers walk by and keep walking after I was trying to get ahold of them. Finally a woman helping a completely different set of tables helped me with my drink. All I asked was please make my drink sweeter. The simple syrup may have been left out of the mix when the bartender made my drink. Our waiter came back and told us the bar tender said it was sweet enough and refused to sweeten it. Odd. It would’ve been an easy fix. Instead they made me some other drink… which was Meh. The oysters arrived and they were extremely dry and slightly rubbery. Maybe shucked and left open in ice? The food was taking a while so the server brought us some bread and butter which we didn’t order. The bread was flavorless and so was the butter so none of us ate more than a bite. The lamb came and I was hoping they would redeem themselves. Unfortunately it had almost no flavor and I was looking around the table for the salt but couldn’t find any of that either. My daughter ate the burger but the fries were so blah she wouldn’t even eat them. What 10 year old refuses to eat french fries??? We left to find dessert elsewhere since the night had been so disappointing. I spoke with the manager Kevin before leaving and gave him my honest review of our experience. He seemed receptive and polite and was actually interested in the feedback. I truly hope this place will improve as I want us to have successful and tasty restaurants downtown in HB. Being that the food was unimpressive, a bill of $150 dollars was quite painful. The best places we’ve found to eat which are AMAZING in HB would be BlueGold, LSXO, WaterTable and Ola Mexican Kitchen. Unfortunately we cannot stand by BLK and say it was any good, but hopefully they...
Read moreme the soup and I was confused when she brought me the soup after all.
My second blue mojito came with a lot of mint in it, which overpowered the taste of the drink. Gina asked me if I wanted a new drink made and I told her I was fine with it and would just order less mint the next time I ordered it. She had the bar tender who made the drink come to me with a new drink and I was thoroughly embarrassed for even mentioning that I didn't prefer the amount of mint that I had received.
When I ordered the main meal, I ordered the sea bass. I asked for an alternative for the rice, and asked for a vegetable. Gina asked me what I wanted in place of the rice, and I asked for green beans. When I received my meal, I received sea bass with rice and green beans, and I did not receive the asparagus that was supposed to come with the original dish. Gina noticed the error when she brought it to me and said she would bring my vegetable side.
As I was asking Gina for a to-go box before dessert, I let her know that I had never received my asparagus, and now that I was receiving dessert, I would just pass on it. The only thing she said was "I'm surprised you never received it." No apology.
Gina made comments throughout the night that made me uncomfortable. I couldn't leave the event quick enough- and I arranged my ride and was the first one to leave.
Gina had told someone else at the table that I am a picky person. This offended me. She also was rude when my coworker ordered a "pino-red," and Gina responded with "well, no one orders pino grisio" which I found to be extremely rude for her to say.
Food is 10/10, but the stress of ordering my meal, and feeling uncomfortable throughout the night is why I will not return. The Blue Mojitos that Kory and Jesus made were wonderful and I highly...
Read moreService was great. Very friendly and the servers know the food. I'm all for paying $$$ for high quality, well made/cooked food. But all their proteins come a la cart, so this means NO sides of any carbs, starches, veggies etc. with your plate. You can add toppings or a side of shrimp or lobster to your steaks for an extra charge of course. But grilled vegetables, mashed potatoes , Mac cheese, rice etc are considered sides and all run about $9 and up. My problem is I'm paying $43 for 12 Oz rack of lamb (it's not the entire rack either) and a smear of pesto sauce. That's all that comes on the plate. Seriously. Same with the steaks. Just the steak and that's it .. unless you added toppings to it. I think for the higher pricing , they could give you a little something to the side of it like potatoes, mushrooms, leeks, anything! I'm definitely not going to share a 8oz filet or even 12oz of lamb , so my plate arriving with just this amount of protein and nothing else doesn't make it look that great and also makes the plate look a little sad (see photo). My lamb was cooked well and my bf liked his chicken (which was topped with garlic at least) but we agreed that for the price we're paying- give some substance on these plates besides just the protein. Plus their cronut wasn't anything special and just too flaky and dry for my taste (even with the ice cream on it) and my friend who shared it with me. But cronuts are sorta like that and why I don't normally order them. (The dessert wasn't really that big enough to share either) I had hoped to fall in love with this place but it's just a meh for me. Again service was great so they get the most stars. Oh and my whiskey sour was pretty...
