The BEST. Period. We first found The Donuttery on our road trip from Minneapolis to Irvine, CA in 2014. We were on a mission to find a proper Cronut as they were new at the time. We did our Google research and found out that The Donuttery had what we wanted.
We ordered two cronuts and found they offered them filled with pastry cream and/or fresh berries. My wife got the pastry cream-filled and I had the pastry cream and fresh strawberry-filled. They were a gift from the heavens. The outside was lightly glazed and crisp, yet the insides were flaky and fluffy. Prepare yourself as they are very sweet and you will probably want a coffee or milk to offset the sweetness.
We returned for road trips in 2015 and 2017 and found the flavor and quality to be outstanding... just as we remembered it. We introduced several friends to our "hidden gem" and they were blown away.
Fast forward to 2024. We had moved from MN to NV and were travelling to Costa Mesa for an appointment. I saw an opportunity to reacquaint myself with these wonderful cronuts after a long 7 years. I looked on their website and I saw mention of Mochi donuts but no sign of cronuts. I was shocked! I e-mailed their general inbox to ask if they still had cronuts. I explained our previous trips and how we got the cronuts with the custard.
Alyssa responded promptly to let me know they still do make cronuts regularly, they are just not highlighted on the menu. When I asked about the custard, she said they don't normally serve them with custard any more, but after hearing my story she would try to make it happen for us. She really went above and beyond.
I asked her for two custard-filled and two with custard on the side to take home. I told her the exact day we were coming. She e-mailed us the day before and let us know she would have them ready for us and who we should talk to when we got there.
We got there on the day of our appointment and the gentleman at the counter was waiting for us with a box of our cronuts and custard. We snatched them up and had to open them in the car before we even left the parking lot. That first bite. It took us back 10 years to our first time. Just as soft. Just as sweet. Just as perfect.
We will now be travelling to Huntington Beach regularly so we will be able to indulge more often. If you want some of the best donuts (and cronuts) around, give The Donuttery a try. But do not do yourself a disservice and leave without trying one of their...
Read moreDisappointed I have to even write this been coming here for 20 years never had an issue until last night… to Jesus or whatever your real name is just wanted to say literally are the worst employee working here , I ordered a turkey sandwich on sour dough bread with mustard mayo after I payed for my order I herd the guy that took my order and Jesus arguing on who wanted to make the sandwich because both of them didn’t want to make it after a second I realized I didn’t want the bread toasted so I asked the guy can I please get the sour dough not toasted on the sandwich and after he approached the back to tell jesus (who was making my sandwich and apparently taking it apon himself to serve me what he wanted, not what I wanted). After the guy came back he told me that it was already toasted and can’t “disassemble” the sandwich I waited and ask him to please make make it untoasted because my mouth is sensitive he then Went to the back to talk to “Jesus” (the culinary sandwich expert” and a second time the guy came back saying there was already product (mayo and mustard) on the toast and that he can’t throw it away so after offering to pay for just two pieces of untoasted bread he then went to the back and talked to the “sandwich expert” Jesus and once again came back and argued that it can’t be done , so I then calmly explained that I payed for this sandwich and will not accept it untoasted , he ran to the back again and then came back and told me they will remake my whole sandwich (when that wasn’t even making sense) just needed to take the toast off and put bread on it . After I got my number called I asked the guy in the blue shirt and glasses (Jesus) if he made the sandwich he replied yes and I asked him what was the problem with the toast and he said the same thing that That it was already being prepared and he didn’t want to waste supplies because it’s a family owned business and continued just giving me excuses not to mention when I got home and got my sandwich he must have gave me a knuckle sandwich because the imprint Of his knuckles was pressed into the bread .. very disappointed and didn’t need the hassle because my day was already super long and just wanted to enjoy my sandwich from my favorite donut shop . Jesus you need to go Back to customer service training on how to be effective...
Read moreI've heard of this place through social media, considering all the great reviews I've seen I was expecting the same quality everyone ranted about. Unfortunately the pricings aren't specific and are no help. As you can see the price per dozen depends on the type of donut however even if you have plain donuts but only one "fancy donut" in your dozen you will be expected to pay the fancy dozen price. Considering my family loves donuts I thought the dozen would be a great investment however when my family began to eat the donuts they noticed some of the donuts were slightly undercooked. The dough was slightly chewy and could use about a couple of minutes more of cook time. Personally I prefer vegan donuts so I was excited to try one. I've eaten plenty of vegan donuts and am very familiar with the proper texture of a vegan donut, needless to say this vegan donut was completely opposite. I could tell immediately they cooked the donut in the same oil as the regular donuts. Lastly, there was a bee inside the glass surrounding the display donuts. Although the staff didn't feed anyone those donuts, the fact remained the donuts were made for the public and out for display and purchase yet there was a bee flying around inside. Noticing all the cross contamination, the pricings, and the wildlife near the food; I am disappointed in the suggestion from...
