I have traveled all over the United States and all over the World. Lived in the Washington DC area for over 20 years. Dishes of India in my honest opinion and having gone to many Indian Restaurants the best in the United States. Something to think about also. The Restaurant had to close down in the early 2000's due to flooding from a mini hurricane. The People in area were really worried it would not opening again. Well it reopened and was packed for months due to its loyal customer base excited about its return. Yes I am one of the loyal customers. I have being going to Dishes of India since it first opened in 1997. The food is amazing and so well prepared. I love all the dishes that they prepare. They have a full menu of Indian appetizers, Entrées, and a small selection of desserts. It should be noted they have a full bar. They are open everyday and have an amazing Buffett. The Buffett is open for lunch Monday-Sunday. Now for the grand finale you can pick up your orders to go also. Well hope you all take the time to read my review. You won't be disappointed. I have tried all their Dishes, had the Buffett, and ordered for pick up. I was never disappointed. The Restaurant is very clean and the customer service is excellent. If you live in the Washington DC area or visiting the area be sure to check out Dishes of India. Well worth a visit. I guarantee you will return. Certainly rates Five Stars and...
Read moreThis restaurant seems to be in business to just make money by not serving quality/tasty food and serving less portion. This is truly disrespect to Indian cuisine. Either they don't have a good chef or they want to do business in this way. Quantity of any of the items weren't sufficient for a family of (2+2). I felt like someone robbed my $104 money. If customer complains about the food then you have to accommodate their perspective. I visited to this place on 11th April 17. We communicated our feedback for the food and we got a cold shoulder. We ordered Chai, Veg Pakora and Samosa. These appetizers were not good at all as they didn't had any salt and sugar in the tea. the waiter told us that you would get everything in Chai (Milk, Sugar). Pakora was not good and Samosa was frozen. Now, about the main course - We ordered Daal, Kashmiri Chicken Korma, Kadai Chicken, Roti and raita. First, the quantity was less. Now, come to Daal, this was complete disaster. From nowhere it's was close to Indian Dal. I don't know what they were trying to make. Kashmiri Chicken Korma - It looks more like a butter chicken and again just 3-4 small pieces not wroth for $13 price. Kadai Paneer and Kashmiri chicken looks and taste same. Believe me, they aren't...
Read moreBest Indian food in the DC area....HANDS DOWN!
My wife and I have heard rumors of this, but our DC snob side of us didn't want to think it was true since this restaurant is in a strip mall in south Alexandria near the Huntington Metro. However, we ventured to see for ourselves and it is true! Best Indian in the DC area.
The restaurant is in a basement of a strip mall, but don't let that scare you. It is a specious restaurant that is always full (a crowded restaurant is a good sign and another good sign is the fact that half of the patrons are actually from India).
All the workers are part of this family owned restaurant that's been in the family for 18 years. Each and everyone one of them is proud of their establishment and are friendly.
This is their best meal: Butter chicken (their version of chicken tikka masala at other Indian restaurants), mango chutney, and naan. It comes with more than enough rice and the naan is the biggest I've seen (one should be enough for one person). The butter chicken is the best India food I've ever had....EVER!
To my DC friends who love DC as much as I do: Make the 20 minute drive outside of the city to go here. Trust me: It's well...
