Been going to Roy Rogers since the ‘70s (used to be one at the Stamp Student Union at U of M that I’d spent many a cram session in). My old girlfriend used to work at the Roy Rogers in Waldorf back when they had to wear a cowboy hat and greet the customers with, “Howdy, pardner. Welcome to Roy Rogers, may I take your order?” They almost went extinct thanks to Hardee’s buying them out and closing most of them, but they’ve slowly started coming back in the MD/VA/PA region. There’s always a line around the block when a new Roy’s opens because people still remember the Double R Bar Burgers, fresh fried chicken, real roast beef (not that lunchmeat nonsense at Arby’s) and it’s still as good as it ever was. The chicken is indeed on the salty side, but it was like that back when Marriott brought the Pappy Parker’s Fried Chicken recipe over from Hot Shoppes. So if you’re watching your blood pressure, you might want to skip it. They have a rotating menu of new items every few months; it’s Steak & Cheese, Apple Crisp, and Onion Rings this month. The Texas Pete Chicken Sandwich is as good if not better than Popeye’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich and the Gold Rush Chicken Sandwich blows Chik-fil-A out of the water. Service is snappy, but they do a lot of tour bus sales from the Mount Vernon crowd, so it can get packed at lunchtime, but they still manage to move everyone through in a reasonable amount of time. They make everything fresh, so they’ll occasionally run low on chicken and you’ll have to wait 10 minutes while they fry a fresh batch, but it’s definitely worth the wait for chicken fresh out of the fryer. It’s not the cheapest fast food, but you get a quality meal and you can still top your sandwich the way you like at the Fixins Bar (I do white onion and horsie sauce on my roast beef, L/T/M & pickles on my burgers). It’s always immaculate since the staff is always cleaning everything down (“If you have time to lean, you have time to clean,” as my old boss used to say). There’s always an older Breakfast Bunch crowd hovering over their hot coffee and biscuits and gravy (they’re one of the few places you can still get creamed chipped beef) and there’s always plenty of seating so you never feel crowded. I’ve been to the Fort Belvoir, Kingstowne, and Frederick shops and of all of them, this one is the best run. Highly recommended if you want fast food that’s real food and...
Read moreThe food was okay but the staff they have is very rude.Me and my wife have been coming here for over 20 years and we have never seen such bad service as we did today. We came December 24th expecting to see a happy employee at the cash register but she gave me a look that made it obvious she didn’t even want to take my order. When she was giving me my chances she back I expected her to say happy holidays or Have a merry Christmas or anything special since it was Christmas Eve but the only thing she did was threw my change in my hand and walked away from the register. While I was waiting for my order I kept noticing she kept giving me dirty looks and whispering to her other coworkers and laughing.I don’t like conflicts so I just decided to ignore her and her actions and continue to peacefully wait for my order to be ready. When I saw my order was ready I expected her to at least peacefully place my order on the counter and ask me if I wanted anything else but instead she literally threw my tray on the table while looking at me with a dirty look.I don’t know what was wrong with her honestly but I wish the manager would have seen the way she was treating me.becasue it was compeletly unacceptable.I will not be coming back here as long as she works there. She was lucky that day since I didn’t see the manager anywhere near but if I ever go back there and see her at the cash register I will not let her...
