I typically don’t write poor reviews, but after two disappointing experiences I feel compelled to share. We’ve been enjoying traditional Japanese food for many years, and unfortunately Yi do doesn’t hit the mark. The overall execution leaves much to be desired on both our orders since its grand opening.
Our first order was ramen, and it was disappointing. We ordered both pork and beef to sample, and both had the same issues: the portion of meat was very limited, and what was provided was mostly fat rather than actual meat. The broth lacked the rich flavor profile we’ve come to expect from authentic ramen, leaving it flat and unsatisfying — and being served cold only made it worse.
We decided to give the restaurant another try with a second order yesterday — sushi, soba, and some appetizers. Once again, the food arrived cold and poorly prepared. The sushi looked and tasted old, and one roll was so loosely wrapped it fell apart when lifted with chopsticks. The beef soba was inedible: the noodles tasted old, the beef was once again fatty with an odd flavor, and the dish carried a “funk” that suggested the sauté pan wasn’t properly cleaned.
As for the chicken — to our surprise, the breast looked and tasted like a deep-fried cut straight from a Tyson chicken bag. Processed, uninspired, and clearly not prepared with care.
The one saving grace here is the staff — they are friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the food itself simply isn’t good, and after two chances we won’t be...
Read moreMy partner and I came here on a Saturday within the first month of them being open.
The decorations were delightful along the walls, and the choice of stylized atmosphere continued throughout our meal with the plates, bowl and even down to the dessert spoons (delightful and adorable small shovels!).
We each got an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. My appetizer was the scallion pancakes which is so very delicious! My partner had shrimp and seemed very pleased with the quality. I had chosen one of the few items without a broth for my entree. Despite the lack of broth, there was a sauce at the base of my bowl that was delightful and very perfectly seasoned. My partners chosen ramen was a very large bowl full of food that after one bite, required a declaration of more visits being required. We finished out our meals with a tira visa and a mango mousse cake slice. This is where the shovel spoons came out and we were delighted!
The portions felt generous, but not overly so and the quality of each food item was excellent.
The servers were fantastic, we had three separate members of staff stop by our table throughout our meal to check on everything and at no point did we feel overwhelmed or disappointed.
Overall, I am very pleased there is a new ramen restaurant and I very much looking forward to going again and trying the rest...
Read moreNot great unfortunately. We were really hoping to like it too! This was a couple months back so the staff was still adjusting to the restaurant.
Everyone was nice, they were just so overwhelmed. We had to call someone over to place an order, no one came for a while. Food took a while, then they brought my wife her ramen. It didn’t seem correct but we figured there’s no way they’d bring us the wrong food. She tasted it and it had literally no flavor whatsoever. A few minutes later they brought us our actual food. Turned out the ramen was for the next table over, which then understandably made the woman next to us really mad. They never replaced her ramen either, they left without getting it.
But even our correct ramen still barely had any flavor, despite being spicy miso. That was really disappointing, we were really hoping for some good ramen nearby! We had ordered extra seaweed, we had to ask for it at least 3 times in order to get it.
They did give us a free dessert which we appreciated! The staff was nice, but was just so overwhelmed, and the food was very mediocre. We definitely...
