I took my family to Arnaud's because my daughter, who lives in Huntsville, wanted crab for her birthday lunch.
Let's start with the atmosphere/setting.
All the seating is outside, and it's a tranquil setting. It reminds me of some of the places I'd go in Austin in the early 90s.
The seating is pretty much all picnic benches, both covered and uncovered. The area is kept up nice with no trash, debris or ant hills.
In Texas, we actually have many months when sitting outdoors is great.
You order at a window, and they beep you when your food is done. In our case, they brought it out to us, but on busy days and times, I imagine you get it yourself. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
I thought the prices were good for the quality and quantity of food.
We had a variety of dishes including the fried shrimp basket, a pound of snow crabs, the snow crab and shrimp boiler bag and a po'boy. Everyone enjoyed what they had.
I had a frozen peach colada that was pretty good. A little sweeter than I prefer, but still quite tasty.
After lunch, we ate at the ice cream truck. The ice cream is made locally, the portions were big, it was absolutely delicious, and the prices were very reasonable. Suggestion, get the flight to share with your significant other. It's huge, and you can select up to 6 flavors.
The next time I'm in Huntsville, I will absolutely be eating there again, and probably trying the shrimp po'boy.
I will probably make a special trip from Crosby with some friends to eat there again. I felt it was that good of...
Read moreThis has been a long time place to go as a treat. Met an out of town friend here for lunch just after the fall '24 semester for Sam Houston had wrapped up. I had the fried pork chop and red beans and rice special (which came with their seasoned fries) and she had a fish platter. They had a good fire going in the fire ring, as the day was clear but had a chill, which made for nice atmosphere. Service was prompt with generous portions for the price and quality.
You are given a buzzer to come get your food, but it have yet to have an time where they were not carrying it out using the buzzer as a locator and to us before I could get up and headed to get it.
I have previously had a significant portion of what they have on the menu, varying what I get as my mood strikes, but would have any of it again. If you think you don't like hush puppies, you haven't tried these; they are almost a dessert.
This is my go-to place in town when I want seafood items prepared well. (The Big E-Z would be my second choice for seafood locally.)
As a comparison, my companion met with some of her work friends at Papadeaux's the next day, and she texted during it that our meal at Arnaud's was much better than what she was having there.
This is in a food truck park setting, and all meals are packaged to-go.
They have started serving alcoholic beverages more recently. I have not been there at a good time to try, but the prices seem reasonable and I have been told the drinks are good by...
Read moreFor a military farewell/baby-shower get-together, my wife and I made reservations with Anaud's a month prior, and even tried calling a week prior and multiple times the days prior but couldn't get ahold of anyone (we are a military family and are stationed in San Antonio so we couldn't just walk in). When we got there a couple of hours before the event was supposed to start, we showed the lady in charge our messages with the their social media account saying that they would be reserving the space for us, and she said, "Oh, we don't really talk with the person that manages our social media," then continued on to say that she doesn't know how they could reserve tables for us. Absolutely no effort was made to apologize, let alone resolve the issue, given we had 30-40 people planning to come to our party in just a couple hours. Thankfully, Big-E's crawfish was right up the road, and Big-E's manager (with now only one hour's notice) welcomed our group with, "Yes, we'll call in a couple extra waitresses and get you taken care of." Big-E's immediately began reserving tables as people left theirs, and our party went on without a hitch with great...
