El Gordo Taqueria — Restaurant in Huntsville

PLEASE READ and avoid the rude OWNER! We stopped here white traveling BECAUSE of some of the good reviews I saw precisely here. I thanked the girls when we picked up the food because they did take my order close to closing time but I did pick it up right away. I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the food but mostly with the staff. We ordered tacos, gordita & kid's plate. They were all soaked in grease. I know gorditas are probably fried but oil was pouring out of it when I picked it out, and no it wasn't cheese bc the tacos had no cheese and the gordita had no cheese that can melt. The beans in the kid's plate was cold and the quesadilla was also extremely oily so no, I did not give it to my child because I did not want her to have an upset stomach. The tacos were half eaten bc of the taste of so much oil and the gordita was uneatable. I am not from Huntsville so I could not drive back to tell my problem the next day BUT I called for sure. I didn't call after we opened our food 10 minutes after we left because the restaurant was closed. When I called the next day, I was told there was no manager, so I called 3 more times int the next week and-a-half and every time they said there was no manager on site, so I finally asked if there EVER was a manager. The girl on the phone got someone whose name is Paola and presented as manager. Why had they just told me there was no manager? I explained what happened and how the food was completely uneatable and that I am not one to usually call to complain but the food was very very very bad and gross to say the least. Not to mention that they didn't give me the right meat on some of the tacos. I asked for Lengua and barbacoa and they gave me 2 lengua and the other 3 or so were wrong. I explained in detail how the food was and how we are two weeks out and no manager is ever there to take these calls. She said she would have to speak to her boss to get me a refund and call me back. Another two days went by and I just called and when I asked for Paola they sent me to a woman who did not give me her name but claimed to be the owner. I asked her if Paola had spoken to her because it's been two days and I've received no call. As soon as she responded (rudely), I already knew how this would go down. She asked me what happened and I REPEATED AGAIN what I had already explained to Paola. She told asked me did we eat in the car or at ho me? WHAT DOES THAT MATTER so I asked her that. Her response was that I should've driven back to the restaurant and I told her that I'm not from Huntsville and that they literally closed the restaurant behind us walking out. I explained that I called the very next morning/day and since then, no manager has been available in almost 2 weeks. She said there was no way the tacos were bad and greasy and that yes the gordita is fried. I know it's fried and I told her but it was DRENCHED, like if I was having oil juice and the food was just painfully bad. Sorry, but it's the truth. I tried telling her about the cold beans (and yes we ate them in the car shortly after we left) and the greasy quesadilla but she would not let me talk and kept talking over me saying she WAS NOT GOING TO GIVE ME A REFUND, PERIOD. She continued to ask me dumb questions like that had nothing to do with the problem and never even apologized. I used to be a manager at a restaurant so I know the difference between costumers who just want free stuff and complain about every little thing and when a costumer is complaining about bad food and bad service. Apparently this owner does not know the difference or doesn't care about loosing costumers. She was so rude I couldn't believe it, talking over me every time I would speak and all she kept saying was that I wasn't getting a refund so I finally hung up and told her thank you. PLEASE, do not waste your time or money with places like this. No, I do not believe in "the costumer is always right" because there are bad and annoying and unfair costumers, but I can tell you that I am not. So disappointed with this place and with the...

This place has really gone down. If I could give them zero stars for service I would. About a month ago I ate there and the food quality had really declined, I ordered a torta & the bread was dry & hard as a rock. But up until that point I had enjoyed their food and service so even though I didn't eat it, I didn't complain, paid the bill and left, thinking it was just an off day for them. Then last night I decided to give them another try, I ordered food to go and they said they were having trouble with their cc machine but it should be back online any moment. I sat there quietly & waited on my food for 45 minutes, didn't even complain when people that ordered after me got their food before me (I've been in the restaurant business before & I know things happen). Turns out the food had been ready since like 10 mins after I ordered it & they were HOLDING MY FOOD, & continued to hold my food, letting it get cold because they couldn't get their OWN credit card machine to work. The bill was $26 something, I had $20 in cash & had tipped them $5 in cash the 1st time I tried to pay with a card. I've never once in my life expected something for free, but if they're really going to sweat me over $6 damn dollars after being a loyal customer for over 3 years I won't ever be back. Thank goodness another customer stepped in and paid the extra $6, because I told them I'm not running to an ATM for $6 measly dollars after all the business I've brought them over the last few years. I had been trying to find a Mexican food place since we moved southward in TX. we just couldn't seem to find one. most don't have shredded beef anything here when they say they have shredded they mean fajita meat. so we were doordash to get extra money and had an order at this place. I didn't even know it was here. it is like a hole in the wall but as some know those hole in the wall places many times end up being the best places. anyways we went back later, we tried several of their dishes and yes they did have shredded beef. It was was nice and tender and very flavorful and best of all didn't have chunks of fat in it. we all shared the different meals and we all enjoyed all of them. this food, i am sure was made with love and pride. we will be going back and trying some other dishes to find out what else we like. we did all shredded beef this time so we will probably do a mixture of the beef and chicken dishes next time. if you live around Huntsville TX or driving thru you should try this place out. it is on 11th on south side of street just 2 buildings west of Martin Luther King Dr. I will add one more thing they were friendly and attentive while we got our food. and before us coming here we had picked up deliveries several times and every time everyone has been friendly. they have never seemed put out and i have to say now a days that is getting...
