Not being from the Huntsville area and just passing through, my family and I decided to try the Farmhouse Cafe and Bakery since it was highly rated. Two people in the party ordered the Chicken Juarez without bacon and cheddar cheese - only mushrooms and Monterrey Jack cheese. Both plates came from the kitchen with no mushrooms and one plate came with everything but mushrooms. After calling this to another waitress’s attention (ours could not be found), she stated she would have it corrected. No problem, we would gladly wait. Then our waitress came over and stated the kitchen did not have any more mushrooms, but they were willing to sauté onions and peppers. Conceding they would not get what they ordered, the they agreed to sautéed onions. In less than 2 minutes, bitter sautéed purple onions arrived. Since time was slipping by, they ate only the chicken breasts. Then our waitress asked if we were interested in dessert. There were no cakes despite being listed on the dessert menu. So, a slice of chocolate pecan pie was ordered. When trying to cut the pie with a fork, it was practically impossible. It had to be cut with a knife and was like a very hard chocolate chip cookie with pecans baked into what appeared to be a pre-made shell. No one at the table could eat it. When the waitress came back over, we explained to her that the pie resembled a hard cookie baked into a pie crust. Micaela (the waitress) looked at us and asked in a surprise tone, “Have you not had our pies before?” Does this bakery always serve pies that are hard and requires a knife - not a fork - to cut? The waitress did take the pie off the ticket. * Perhaps this place is a local hometown favorite. I am a true Texan and enjoy good southern food. So, without any biases, don’t waste your time at this restaurant and bakery if you're just passing through. You probably will not get what you order and will not be told until after you receive your food; and the desserts will probably not be very edible. Save your money and go...
Read moreI had been last year with a friend went okay then. So I thought I would take my daughter there this past Friday for lunch. It was not busy at 1:30 so we got a table right away. Ordered water and promptly had a fly fly into my daughter's water. They brought a new water. There was debris and food and garbage strewn all over the floor even though they weren't busy and there was a bunch of personnel at a table talking and whatnot over in the corner. The fruit flies and flies were horrible, I had to cover my meal with a napkin and kind of eat under it to keep the flies off. That should have been my first clue. There was food gunked on to the fork when I unwrapped my napkin. The food was okay but very greasy and very spicy even though I was told it was not spicy. The coleslaw was fine although it needed Salt in my opinion. I wrote a long list on the back of our receipt of things of observed such as heavy dust on the vents and dirty window sills and whatnot and gave that to the manager and told him that he can do with it what he will but we hope that things will be improved if we came back. The real problem came that night into the next day and the next two days when we're both suffering from food poisoning. It was horrible! I will never go back to this place ever ever ever ever again never!! There are so many other places to go and I certainly will never be back to this place did I mention never ever again?! Judging by the meals that my daughter and I had I would say that their oil that they deep fry their french fries and chicken fried steak is likely gone Rancid. Probably from the Flies following in it and what not. I would advise you to avoid this place like the plague because you're likely to catch that from this place. The...
Read moreIt would seem that my review will be in direct contrast to multiple others. My friend suggested this place based on a recommendation from family and the reviews he read. I will begin with the service - I would rate the service five out of five stars and it is the only reason I gave the entire review two stars instead of one. The young lady who attended us was cheerful, very attentive, and very kind - we really thought she was amazing. Now to the building itself - the ladies room was abhorrent, there was mold on the walls, large cracks between baseboard and wall, it was dirty and strewn with paper on the floor. I really did not want to eat there after I visited the ladies room as I was worried about cleanliness. The restaurant itself did not seem overly clean and there appeared to be mildew on our very dirty menus as well. Now the food - it was not good at all. My friend had the fried catfish which looked okay but the mac n cheese was horrible and his fries were well overcooked. I had the chicken fried steak, fries and okra. I asked if they really knew how to fry okra and was assured they did but it was very soggy and tasteless. My fries were underdone and the steak had zero flavour. The "gravy" was yellow-tinted and was not thick like cream gravy should be. We stopped here as my friend drove to Huntsville for an appointment and I was returning from Dallas so it was convenient. We would definitely not visit again based on our...
