In one form or another, potatoes are one of the few foods that practically everyone enjoys. I love them in most any form, but when Iâm in the mood for potatoes in the rawest form possible, only a baked potato will do and a restaurant that specializes in this type of food is Potato Shack, a Huntsville, TX mainstay.
Letâs start with the atmosphere. Potato Shack is casual, with signs of various types covering the walls. There is a section that is more open, too. Itâs not outdoors- it is covered. But it has larger window openings to let the fresh air flow when the weather is nice. There is a bar with stools for individual seating and an abundance of tables and chairs for your seating needs.
Now, for the food. Potato Shack divides its baked spuds between classic and specialty varieties. If classic is your thing, you can select among such options as a simple butter potato, cheese potato, or mixed vegetable potato. If you feel more adventurous, you can select among the specialty potatoes such as Barbecue potato, Louisiana Link potato, Teriyaki potato, and many more. It would be fun to visit multiple times, over a span of weeks, and try a different one each visit, as there are so many from which to choose and so many sound delicious.
If you donât want a potato, there are other food options here such as burgers, wings, salads, etc. I canât imagine visiting Potato Shack and not getting a potato, but if you want something else, no problem. They also serve desserts and have a kidâs menu. And they have a large selection of beers on tap from nearby Lucky 19 Brewing, which is affiliated with the restaurant.
Potatoes are served at Potato Shack split open and smothered in toppings. You donât need to cut open your potato and arrange the toppings. Everything is right there, mixed and ready to enjoy. The potatoes are large and with the added toppings, are quite filling. One thing is certain: you will leave Potato Shack feeling full and satisfied. The portions and toppings are generous and the food is delicious and memorable.
I love potatoes as much as the next person and I really love a baked potato piled high with all the fixings. This is exactly what you get at Potato Shack, a great place for lovers of spuds located in Huntsville, TX right next to Sam Houston State. Itâs a great place for a satisfying meal and I recommend a visit on your next trip...
Read moreThe servers were very helpful and sweet. We told them it was our first time and they quickly and efficiently told us about the menu and how to order. Any questions we had they answered right away. We got the roast potato, the broccoli cheese potatoe and the parmesan broccoli potatoe add grilled chicken. The pot roast potato they kindly cut in half and put in separate baskets so my parents could share but not have to share one big basket back and forth. The option to get half a potatoe or a whole was wonderful. The pot roast was juicy and tender and very tasty would definitely recommend. The broccoli cheese potatoe was good but the chicken was very dry. But overall the potatoe had good flavor and the broccoli was cooked perfectly al dente. The parmesan broccoli was very good; it had a lot of cheese! The added grilled chicken was again very dry but had good flavor. We opted to try the desserts over the appetizers. We got a turtle cheese cake, a carrot cake and an order of raspberry cheesecake chimichangas. The turtle cheese cake was the best! It has a chocolate cookie crust a layer of chocolate mousse then a layer of cheese cake and topped with carmel chocolate chips and a small amount of nuts! Delicious! The carrot cake was more of what I would consider a spice cake. It was very good just not a lot of carrots and more spice than I am used to. The cheesecake chimichangas were cooked very well crispy on the outside and cool on the inside unfortunately the ratio of cheesecake filling to raspberry jam was different in each on and some had one in haalf cheese cake and the other half raspberry filling. Over all it was a delicious satisfying meal that I would recommend to anyone looking for a place to eat in...
Read moreBartender had a HORRIBLE attitude and absolutely ruined our experience. We have been eating a Potato Shack since their old location before there even was a bar like this. The cashier yelled âcan I get a 419â when I ordered but I noticed nobody was behind her. So we sit down at bar and a young lady walks in from the back and starts washing cups, I say âexcuse meâ to get her attention, then I tell her I ordered a 419 and wasnât sure if she knew. She says âyeah well I was probably changing the keg so if you could give me literally just a secondâ. The fact she was in the back, I guess changing keg, is why I thought she didnât know about the order. The cashier asks her whatâs up and I hear her say I was yelling at her (100% did not, I said excuse me loudly due to music but never âyelled atâ anyone in the establishment EVER. She slams my beer down on the bar and it spills from the top, me proceeded to grudgingly wash cups tossing things around with just a horrible horrible attitude. It was so awkward my fiancĂ©e wanted to go sit elsewhere, and now doesnât even want to go back. I know this place is better than what she displayed and thatâs why I wanted to write the review to bring her to attention. In the last 8 years of patronage I have never had such an experience, which is why I still have 3 stars, although the experience was...
