I've been meaning to write this for the past year so here we go! If you are a parent or a simple college student venturing on their leasing journey; do not choose these apartments. As a resident here, lets delve into the reasons shall we; at the beginning of my stay everything looked remarkable such as the amenities, proximity to campus and their modern appliances! But, you can't truly judge a place by their appearance nor the tour you've just gone on. Nothing beats getting to know a place than actually living it!

For you reading this review; I give my upmost honesty so be prepared. First things first if you didn't manage to smell weed as you progressed through the facility then YOU WERE SO VERY LUCKY! I've never smelled such a smell SO pungent that it reached the parking lot. It's most concentrated on the first floor and 3rd floor. To specify, on the first floor to the end of the hallway that leads to the dog park, and the elevator next to the fire exit. The room, right next to that door which I believe to be 126, has the most prominent smell of that herb which just spreads like wildfire to the end of the corridor and garage. To put it bluntly, if your room is close to that elevator which it might as theres only 2 elevators in the facility. Then you too will be crossing that hallway! Heading to the lobby? You'll smell it! Want to get mail or pick up a package at the smart lockers? You'll also smell it! Want something from the vending machines? You guessed it, you'll smell it! Want to go work out? You know the answer. Not only does it pertain from that specific room but all the doors that lead inside.

And boy do I have something to say about those doors, when it comes to security guess what! There's none! The gates that leads to the garage are always broken, literally, it's always open. And just a few months ago, a car ran into one of the gates causing it to be broken for about a month. Which was later fixed but you guessed it, its broken once again letting any car through. The gate that is used to exit the garage is always open and as its next to the one that is supposed to be the entry gate; you have those people that can't just simply wait for the ENTER HERE gate to open, so they go through the EXIT GATE, causing potential crashes for those trying to leave (I know because on an occasion, I was about to pull out of the garage to find a white sedan hit the breaks immediatly since he thought he could go through the EXIT GATE) Moving forward with the security:

The doors, EVERY SINGLE DOOR THAT IS ON THE EXTERIOR IS BROKEN, The facility apparantly once had a concept of double door security where you have a door on the exterior of the building, and then another door to make sure you have a key to get it. The most prime examples are a, the exterior door that is right next to the jack in the box is open for the public to use! It's not even closed which can be seen if you're wanting to drop by and get a burger. The next example would be on the third floor, so the reason why the third floor is special is because it leads exactly to the main road that connects campus and the main market dining hall. So very convenient to campus, but, as it also connected to the main road, you would like to think the door that allows entry to the facility would be locked correct? No! The exterior door is completely flimsly, it has an "apparent" lock to input your resident key to get in but dont bother! As the thing doesnt even need one to get it! as the locking mechanism is broken! Now how about that second door I mentioned prior, that one would surely be locked wouldn't it? NO AGAIN! As it doesn't even close anymore! Now let's say for some reason that door ever closes, it doesn't take a genious to go up the stairs (which shouldn't be acessible if you aren't a resident but guess what; the exterior door doesn't even work to stop non residents!) So, you kindly make your way up the stairs to the fourth floor and make a discovery that the door of the 4th floor, has A BROKEN HANDLE, so waltz your way right in! I've exceeded the...

The Armory at Sam Houston is not at all what it was made out to be. Since moving in in 2018, I have experienced countless issues with apartment quality, neighbors, safety, and complex cleanliness.

Whoever built the Armory seriously cut corners. All of the baseboards throughout the complex are warped (it looks like water damage, however, it's even present on the higher level floors), for the first month I lived here part of the first floor was constantly flooded to the point that mold grew in the drywall and it had to be completely replaced. The parking garage is extremely small, and honestly quite dangerous, there are blind spots everywhere and most of the time you don't know someone is coming around the corner until it is too late. Residents completely ignore the posted speed limit and fly around the corners, both myself and my roommates have almost been hit on several occasions. Moving on to specific unit issues, the blinds constantly break, fixtures were hung crooked, and vents in our bedrooms weren't sealed. The construction crew had stained our floors before move-in and it was never repaired or cleaned. The walls are paper-thin, if I am in my room I can hear conversations that my roommate is having in hers, as well as what the neighbors are talking about upstairs. There isn't any privacy. If you are speaking about anything at a normal level, other residents are sure to be able to hear it.

The Armory constantly reeks of weed, and nothing is done about it. I understand that we are in college and that everyone does things differently. However, my parents/friends/family members are constantly slapped in the face with the smell any time they come and visit me and it's embarrassing. I cannot even sit on my balcony without it being the only thing I'm able to smell. On top of that, people are constantly partying. My floor shakes from my neighbors bass in his stereo, and regardless of noise complaints, it never stops. My roommates and I have been woken up several times anywhere from 2-5 in the morning because people are screaming in the hallways and blasting music downstairs.

Safety doesn't seem to be a huge concern here, or at least it wasn't for the previous management. In Spring 2019, my roommates and I were woken up to someone banging on our door loudly for quite some time (it sounded like they were trying to break in), and we called the police. However, when the police got here, they couldn't get into the complex without one of us going downstairs and letting them into the building. Which we didn't want to do because someone had been aggressively banging on our door and jiggling the door handle, and so we basically just had to wait for whoever was at our door to leave and for the resident security guard to do a walk around. The next day I went down to the office to speak with the property manager at the time, and she didn't even seem phased by the incident. She told me that she couldn't check the cameras because "they only turn on at a certain sound level" and apparently whatever had happened at our door didn't activate them because they were probably too far away. However, she did tell me that it was probably just some guys on the fourth floor who were making videos for their YouTube channel and that they filmed themselves punching holes in the walls of the hallways downstairs. So, that was her best guess.

The hallways are constantly dirty, and in the (almost) year and a half I have lived here I have maybe seen them clean 3 times. This speaks for the rest of the apartment complex as well, the clubhouse bathrooms are constantly trashed and most of the time aren't even stocked with toilet paper. People allow their dogs to pee in the elevators, and it just sits there.

Overall, I wouldn't live here again. The only reason I renewed my lease was because of the short walk to campus and that I didn't want to move for the last 6 months of my undergrad. Hopefully the new management will be able to turn some of the issues around. However, there's not a lot that can be done about poor and rushed...

DO NOT SIGN HERE. This is my second year living here, one year with helen and now this one with the new management. Never thought I would say this but I miss helen. Management has taken away the key pad to enter the gate, which has made it very difficult for my friends and family to enter. There is very little security in this complex. Management has had the exit gate open for months, doing "maintenance" on it, anyone can enter the complex. A lot of the doors to the complex are unlocked, you don't need any fobs to get into the complex, so anyone can just walk into the complex. Also there has been a lot of talk that the security cameras in the hallway aren't even on, only the ones on the patio and in the common area on the 1st floor. Talking about the patio, it has been closed this year, and it is finally "open" but only during office hours, so if you were wanting to hangout up there at 8 pm you can't. I'm sorry I'm paying so much money to live here and can't even enjoy the amenities? They post on social media talking about their amenities but don't let them fill you it is NOT 24/7. Going to maintenance now, i literally had to get a camera for my room bc of maintenance. First off they will enter your unit whenever EVEN AFTER AND BEFORE OFFICE HOURS, literally someone came in at 9 pm on a weekday. They also knock ONE TIME before entering, giving you no time to get ready fyi. Also maintenance sucks. I moved into my new unit and told them the fridge didn't have an ice maker, it's almost been a year and guess what NO ice maker. I have reminded them many times and each time they say it's coming. I ended up giving up trying to get that. My dryer in my unit sucks, it won't dry anything, you have to do at least 4 cycles to even get it remotely dry. We have put in maintenance requests on that and finally after MONTHS they came to "look at it" and it was literally 1 minute of looking and said there is nothing wrong with it. Also the apartment is just DIRTY, the hallways are never cleaned, there are always bugs. The apartment always smells, especially the first floor common areas. Also the entrance and exit I take for going to campus, it's so dark back there it's very unsafe and guess what, the door to my hallway and the door the the APARTMENT ITSELF is UNLOCKED. The security absolutely sucks here. Only reason I signed here was bc it is so close to campus but guys please don't it's not worth it. Also the pricing here is CRAZY. For a bedroom in a 2 bedroom unit is over $1,000, everywhere else a little away from campus is like $650-700. I would suggest to find one off campus and pay less and just get a parking...
