So my wife and I, along with 8 other couples, decided to play Topgolf last night 8/19/25 at 5:30pm. We understood the reservation risks (reservations cost more but guaranty a bay and time, OR you can just walk in and risk having to wait). We chose to risk it. I walked to the counter and asked this kid (young Asian male) for 3 bays. His demeanor instantly turned angry and the following conversation was as follows:
(Receptionist) - "3 bays? Are you serious"? (me) - yes? (Receptionist) - "You can't do that! Why didn't you reserve ahead of time"? (me) - I didn't know I HAD to... I thought you could either reserve or walk in, with walk-ins risking wait times of course. (Receptionist) - "No, you HAVE to reserve if it's more than 2 bays". (me) - Oh, can we not do it then? (Receptionist) - "Yes, like I'll allow it this time, but do you realize how much you've ruined our night? Like we hate it when this happens and it makes it hard on everyone. It ruins everyone's night".
He repeated his rebukes a couple more times, I apologized just to get past this rude conversation, and he gave me a sales card to call next time I wanted 3 bays. I went up to my bays and texted nothing to the rest of the party.
When the rest of my party arrived, several of them came up to me when they got to the bays and asked why this young Asian kid was so angry. I asked them why they were asking. They said (and this is how you know I'm not making this up) that when they arrived, they went up to the counter to "check in" and "this young Asian kid" said "Oh, you're part of the Matthews party? Do you guys realize how much you've ruined our night?".
INSANE!
Look, I didn't know I HAD to reserve if more than 2 bays...but good grief, if a customer messes up, tell them once what your policy states and SHUT UP! Don't keep reminding them of why they've "ruined" your night!
All 16 of us were flabbergasted at this guy's audacity. I would say move him into the kitchen as he's not fit to talk to people, but ironically when we all got our food, all the fried foods were quite burnt. We started joking that this kid made it himself to teach us a lesson. I know he didn't do that though.
FYI, we all had a blast, the waitresses were SUPER kind and quick, but this kid should probably be moved out of customer service for real. Also, please explain to me the difference between 3 people walking in during slow hours and asking for 3 bays, and 1 person walking in during slow hours and asking for 3 bays. All bays were on separate tabs too,...
Read moreFun, but horrific service! Showed up about 11pm or so on a Saturday. Took about 15-20 mins for a bay which isn't too bad, so we waited at the bar but it took 10 minutes before we were noticed and served. Eventually got our bay then we had to wait an additional 20 minutes for a host to show up and gets us cards to start out game. The game went well and was fun, but with 4 people we barely finished in an hour, because the graphics take too long between players. About 30 minutes I ordered a pitcher for our group with didn't show up until we had 3 minutes left, I tried to find our server to cancel it after so long but didn't have any luck. After the game finished it took 45 minutes to get out checks and then after we got them (and they were wrong) it took an additional 20 minutes to get them back and pay. That is just ridiculous. Plus they walk around with tablets but I still had to go back downstairs and close my bar tab - I know servers want the tips they've earned, but seriously, the systems are linked so that I can just get 2 receipts at my bay and don't have to go somewhere else to close out.
Don't ever plan on going back until the drink prices go down a little and I hear that the service is much improved.
8/15/18 Update: I ended up reaching out to the email address provided by Top Golf, I emailed them around noon and had a response just a few hours later. They wanted to know what specific issues and concerns I had so they could pass it on to their Operations Team. They are also offering me 2 free hours for up to 5 people on a date of my choice. The free game is very nice and I would like to try it again. Will update after trying Top Golf again sometime in the somewhat near future.
8/18/18 Update: Used my free 2 hours with a group totaling 4 people. The staff at Top Golf was very accommodating for my group. A manager knew we were coming and walked us to our bay, another manager greeted us at our bay and immediately asked if we needed anything. Robin was the manger who greeted us when we went to walk in and she was very polite and professional. Our server was also over immediately. Everything we ordered came correctly and promptly, our server regularly checked on us. This experience was immensely better than my initial one; although I would not consider this a true experience because the manager knew we were using comp time provided by the company. Read moreThis was our worst experience EVER, and it was our 3rd party here. We arrived early and were told to wait at the bar. Our event was 3:45 to 6:15. At 3:55 my husband asked about our reservation. The front seemed shocked no one had seated us but told us to go to the bays at the far end. We have NEVER been on the end when we have reserved for a party. I asked about th, s and the manager wanted to argue about it telling me they never seat parties in the center. I pulled up the website I used to book all 3 parties and showed her the fine print where it says they try to get you as close to the center as possible. I was told someone would come talk to me, and of course, no one ever did. We moved on and got started. The waitress then treated me like I was going leave without paying and asked for my card before she would take our food order( in front of my guests). Again, below copied from the confirmation email says a method of payment will be collected at the END of your event.
"Deposit: The non-refundable 25% deposit (pre-tax) made today will be deducted from your final bill the day of. Your remaining balance will be due at the end of your event plus any applicable taxes, fees, or overages for the full package. Please note, that we do not keep your card on file and a method of payment will be collected at the end of your event. This booking is non-transferable to a reservation.
Gratuity: Tip is NOT included in your package cost, so please be sure to tip your bay host the day of your event."
I used my debit card, the waitress didn't come to me with the check, another lady (I am assuming a manager) came to me and ask if I wanted to use the card on file for the entire balance. Would I give her a card I didn't want to use? Absolutely not! I told her we didn't get started until around 4 and asked if we could get the entire 2.5 hours I paid for, she said she would let us stay until 630. She then came back with the receipt and told us she would not extend our time and took 2 appetizers off the ticket, which was not what I wanted.
Update: Nicole from sales called to talk about our experience. She was very nice and made things right. She explained that the bays on the ends are for parties with a buffet, which we did not have, so we should have been closer to the center. Both of our previous parties were awesome, and hopefully, this was just a one-time thing. The food was great and although we are not good at golf, we always have...
