Greater Baking — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

The bakery is really cute and clean. My sons and I went there for the first time after leaving an appointment they had, and I have to mention that it was 6pm close to them closing which is at 7pm. When we first walked in it didn’t seem like a very friendly atmosphere, but again it was 6pm and I imagine that perhaps they had a long day and were probably tired and ready to leave. My oldest son was really excited to try this place because when we googled places with funnel cakes it was the first place to pop up as a bakery with in on its menu. Needless to say he was extremely disappointed because they indeed did not sell them anymore and stated they were only seasonal. Again, this was our first time visiting and I had questions, but my youngest son age 6 has autism and was being himself, and the young lady seemed a little irritated. Again, it was an hour away from closing time, so she could have been very tired from a long. We did get a half a dozen cupcakes and ice cream. Greater Baking is such a charming little bakery run by two incredibly kind and welcoming sisters. From the moment you walk in, you feel right at home. I’ve visited twice now and can confidently say this place is a gem.

On my first visit, I tried the butter pecan, banana pudding, and caramel cupcakes and they were all amazing. Each one was packed with flavor and had the perfect texture. I had my eye on the peach cobbler cupcake, but didn’t grab it that time. After how good the others were, I had to go back for more and ended up getting a dozen!

Unfortunately, the peach cobbler cupcake was sold out on my second visit (it must be super popular!), but that just gives me another reason to return. They also offer banana pudding, cookies, ice cream, and lemonade, which I didn’t get to try yet but I will next time for sure.

I’ve been meaning to visit this place and I finally got the chance to! My first qualm is that I came in a few hours after opening and all the flavors/items listed online were ready for purchase (i.e still being prepared). No cookies or banana pudding. In fact, the online menu differed drastically from the options in store. No biggie. Grabbed a dozen cupcakes and a scoop of Cookie Monster ice cream. The woman assisting at the register was so friendly and helpful. As for the cupcakes, unfortunately, I wasn’t a huge fan. The peach cobbler and biscoff cupcakes, for example, tasted like muffins with frosting. I also wished the flavors were incorporated throughout the cupcake instead of just sprinkled on top. I plan to visit again, to try other things on the menu. Hopefully next time...
