Harold's Chicken Shack — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

This place has the worst customer service and spotty food at best. I went here to retrieve my food after ordering on DoorDash. There was no one at the front. I Knock on the window. No response. I knock again and finally the lady in the back comes. At this point two more people are behind me. I ask for my food and is immediately met with an attitude and asking how did I order the food. I calmly say DoorDash. She going to the cook asking who was doing the knocking, I inform her that I did. She said don’t be knocking on our window. So I asked do you all have a bell. She said no, then proceeds to lie and say “ I was only gone for 10 seconds. I’m like ok. Well I did knock. Then she realize that I had my two dogs with me. Which was why I was trying to get in and out. But she was yelling at me for so long that she was delaying my leave. When she finally give me my food I ask for a plastic bag. Again, attitude. I say ok can you ring me up the 7 cent for the bag. She gives attitude again. I say I have a 20. She finally gives me my bag and she still talking. Now her and one of the other customers are yelling at me. Like I’m the one just asking her to do her job. And then they kept saying I had a attitude but I didn’t until I started yelling cause the customer tried to get in my personal space to intimidate me. Harold’s in general don’t have to worry about my money again. This place has set it for me. They don’t even like their customers. And this lady...

Today is the final day I will order anything from this establishment. The food is good, however, the service ranges from horrible to OK. Today was horrible. I called my order in at 6:10pm, and arrived at 6:50 to pay for it. The young lady at the register took my cash and I left for another 10-15 minutes. I came back inside to see if my order was ready for pick, only to find out that the young lady never wrote down my order when I called it in or gave the order to the cook after I paid for it. When I asked her the status of my order, she looked at my receipt and went to the cook to drop the food. At this point its 7:05. I asked for a refund, at which point she informed me that it was coming up. I declined and asked for my money back. The older woman behind the counter started to lecture her about passing orders to the cook before given me my refund. So now I'm just standing at the counter waiting for them to return my money. The older lady turns to me and asks if I'm sure I want a refund, so I say yes and she gives me my money back. What's even worse about the service is that several ppl arrived after me with call-ins and their food was ready. Not once was I given an apology or offered a discount. The attitude of the employees was simply Oh Well. In regards to service, this is one of the worst...

False advertisement! Just went in there and purchased two "lunch specials" for $8.50 each. A "free pop" was to be included with each meal. I had the nagging suspicion that when it came time to retrieve my order, there would be an issue with the pops. Sure enough, the cashier gave me my food without asking which pops I wanted. So I inquired about the pops and she asks "Which pops did you want? Because we don't have any pops right now and the owner says I have to upcharge a dollar for the name brand pops." I'm thinking "WTH?!", but I wasn't even going to argue about it although I would have been right, because that was supposed to be included with my meals. So I took my business down the street to get pops from there.

Fast forward to the food: neither me nor my boss liked the food. The wings were hard and tasteless and the fries were old and an ugly brown color and tasted more like oil. There was no seasoning and I'm also happy I didn't get the coleslaw, because I'm sure that would have been awful as well. "Lunch Special" my foot, that was more of a "lunch mediocre"!

It's Black businesses like this that give other Black businesses a bad name. I should have stuck to my guns when I told my boss that I will only eat from Harold's on 35th. Now he understands why. The hell with...
