One Stop Jamaica Jerk — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

I placed a phone order for a jerk chicken salad & two jerk tacos for pickup.

The cashier took my order and abruptly hung up the phone. She informed me it’s takes time to make the jerk tacos and she wasn’t sure if the chef would start preparing them this early in the day. She placed me on a soft hold and I overheard her talking to the chef. The cashier tells me, between 20-30 minutes for the tacos. I leave where I am after 30 minutes for a 5 minute car drive. Funny thing is, I was thinking I ordered from a different jerk restaurant. I discovered I ordered from Somewhere different when I drove by the restaurant I thought I ordered from. Don’t judge me, I didn’t know the name of the favored restaurant.

The environment is very inviting. The floor was still wet from being mopped and it smelled like disinfectant, clean, neat, and fresh. However the TV is extremely loud such that it’s hard to hear the cashier behind the plexiglass.

No one is in the lobby but there is a wait before I’m greeting to place an order, pick up my order, etc. The cashier immediately tells me the tacos are not ready. I inform her I’m at work on lunch, how much longer! Another delay. She returns with the salad and says no tacos. It will be another 10 minutes.

🤔 I’m not sure if that’s 10 Jamaican minutes or American minutes. Anyone who has ever been to Jamaica knows they are never in a rush there. Everything is ire. Thing is, I’m not in Jamaica on vacay, I’m here in Chicago grinding at work and am on lunch. I also creeped out for lunch at that.

The salad container I like, and the portion of lettuce and cheese was on point. Hardly no cucumber though.

The spice and flavor on the chicken was amazing. The jerk sauce was also good. I’m not sure whether the jerk sauce is freshly made but it’s decent.

Let’s talk about this dried out hard as a rock as chicken. It was definitely overheated if it’s yesterday’s leftovers chicken. Shame, shame, shame if the chicken was prepared today.

Would I return 🤔 probably not. The cashier was rude, and the chicken was dry & hard. How you gonna serve dried out chicken at a jerk restaurant at the start of the day! Also, when you tell people 30 minutes, they should not have to wait another 30 minutes when they arrive to pick up an order they placed 35 minutes ago! Heck it only takes pizza 45 minutes on pick up. Also, street parking only which could be an issue depending on the time...

This is my second time eating here now, the food is consistently good and flavorful. I ordered the oxtail and jerk chicken combo this time, and the first time I came I ordered the jerk chicken and brown chicken stew.

This time was different because I ordered online and once I arrived to pick up my food, I was told they were out of cabbage and that I could get greens instead. I was disappointed since I was never a big fan of collard greens since they taste different everywhere. I didn’t feel like asking for a refund so I asked if I could sample the greens and they said yes. They gave me a small portion of greens inside a mild sauce cup and I tasted them; and I can’t even lie… they tasted just like cabbage lol. So this is the first time I ever had GOOD GREENS. The portions are good, the jerk sauce isn’t hot (I’m not a spicy food person so thank you) but it is flavorful. The mac and cheese was good but I had to add salt and pepper. The oxtails were small but still was enough for me and my girlfriend to share, and they tasted good. The plantains are really good too, that sweet flavor adds just the right amount of balance. Watching tik tok and I was directed here. I went there trying to get some jerk oxtails and jerk chicken combination. THING IS...I DONT like my food to touch so I asked can my food be put in separate container just so my meat won't touch the rice & beans ...Do you know the lady said No it can't be done???!! So she wouldn't separate from the red beans and rice from my meat..THEN tells me I can go somewhere else cause they might sell it like that but she's not!! pissed me off..cause she wouldn't even allow me to pay for a separate container..Customer service goes a long way esoecially when it's ppl like me that would bring business to an establishment...It wouldnt hurt nothing or no one for her or the cook to just not pack my food on top of each other.
