Just as i literally suspected, this is really just another extremely overhyped Soul Food restaurant.Good Customer service here is a Fib too, because the otherwise seemingly decent waitress I had LIED to me about how good the food is."Bebe B." said all of their food is good, but she really sold me a dream.I was LIED to on WVON,the multiple news reports, and from emotional, but delusional customers about how good the customer service is and how good the food is.Both of these statements or claims are mythological unfortunately. The so-called "Good Customer Service" here is really a Smokescreen that deceptively hides the FACT that their food is TRASH aka "Bottom Of The Barrel" out of all of the Soul Food restaurants that i have ever been to in Chicago to date.Their "Smothered Chicken" gave me a totally unexpected Inflammation in the roof of my mouth.Their Mac & Cheese was watered down.Their Mashed Potatoes with chicken gravy was Iffy.Their "Beef" meatloaf was more like Veal quality wise and taste wise.Their Cabbage was Iffy too.Their corn muffins was tiny, but also crunchier than a chocolate bar with rice in it at the very bottom of them.Their "Homemade" Strawberry Lemonade was too sweet.Their Pound Cake slice was too Buttery.I also saw multiple employees there who may or may not be Illegal Aliens too, clearly working in the Kitchen of a restaurant that is not their culture at all ladies and gentlemen. This is officially now a pattern I am sick and tired of seeing in so-called "Black" owned restaurants in the South side and South suburbs of Chicago. You can clearly tell that they really don't belong there, with one of these female employees looking at me funny the entire time I was there.Another female employee that actually is my demographic was looking at me funny too though. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere they finally pretended to care about my experience there with their Abysmal food so far.It was too little, too late at that point though.Ambiance wise, they was playing modern day "Gospel" ??? music in the background, but fortunately the volume was shockingly low at least. The woody interior is kind of decent to look at.The seating was cushioned bench seating and tables in the midst of the restaurant too.Their restroom was almost clean overall. My bill was a undeservedly expensive $29.19 by the way.I am a sucker for the skin tone of my waitress and maybe that's why I gave her a five dollar tip,but I always tip my waitresses and waiters though, even if they sold me a dream about the menu.Needless to say, this so-called "Black" owned Soul Food restaurant is a "One-Off" for me infinitely. Thanks For...
Read moreUpdated my review to 5 stars I have figured the best time for me to come is Friday afternoons. They always have plenty of stock of all the great dishes and a really nice and relaxing dine in experience. They have never run out of any of their wonderful dishes. My Favs are smothered porch chops, short ribs, ox tail, catfish and the sides are great, pinto beans with rice, greens, cabbage all wonderful home made and so tasty 😋 The homemade lemonade is also sooo good. And the desserts are also top-notch. The prices are very reasonable for such high-quality home cooked food. Me and my wife have become regulars on Friday afternoons. In fact, we always really look forward to coming here. This truly is the best soul food and country restaurant in the Chicago land area. The service is great, always greated with a hello and a big smile, and waitresses are all so sweet and competent. If you are looking for the best soul food in the Chicago land area, you have to try this place, and for sure, you will also become a regular.
Previous Review: Went on Saturday around 4 pm. The food was absolutely fantastic. I had the smothered pork chops, black eye beans, and cabbage. I think some of the best soul food I have ever tasted. my wife had the meat loaf, which was also very good. You could taste wonderful spices such as sage and jerk seasoning in it. Everyone, including the staff and customers, was super nice and friendly. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that, unfortunately, even at only 4 pm, they had run out of most of their main dishes. Ox tail was gone, I was lucky to get some of the last porkchops they had left but felt bad for the 15 people in line behind me as they watched as the the last of the pork chops in the pan was emptied by my order. Also, many of the sides, such as macncheese, which I really wanted to try, were out. Also, the famous peach cobbler was all long gone. And was told that's it they were out for the day, with no replenishment coming. Supposedly, they were open until 6 pm, but I'm not sure how that would even be possible with many items gone or extremely low at 4 pm. I will definitely be back, and hopefully, next time, I will get to try some of the dishes they...
Read moreThe mother/owner (?) was very attentive! The price was great, but the quality of the food was ALL barely lukewarm, wasn't. I had 1thin smothered breakfast pork chop, dry/tough to the cut, with greasy runny (not thick) gravy. I brought my family; we got our 1 side item and a cornbread muffin the size of a quarter (really, why?). They had to wait about 15 minutes to get their chicken and fish. I had to ask what the hold-up was, and then I was informed it was cooked to order. I explained to the manager that my family food would be cold if they didn't eat it while waiting for the meat. She then said, "What do you want me to do about it?" I didn't reply. I asked her if I could get a better-looking pork chop, which she honored, and it looked no better than the first one. When she came to clean our table, she could clearly see it was not touched.
I love going to and patronizing BOBO restaurants, which I never regret. I ate here about 15 years ago, and the food and quality were much better. My grandkids said the spaghetti was good, as were the chicken and fish, but the batter used was salty. If you want a side dish or any additional items, they are almost half the price of the current special. For me to write a review, trust me, it had to be what I deemed a poor experience. For sure, below standard and quality. I'd say go to show support, but don't anticipate high expectations. The restaurant seems to have elderly, very supportive patronage that brings their family or grandchildren like I did, but surely not a place that I'd think our younger generation would...
