“Very Average to Mediocre Experience” My wife and I booked a Saturday night dinner reservation for 7:30 PM. Traveling through downtown Elmhurst, we noticed all the restaurants full of patrons occupying both indoor and outdoor seating. We pull into Angelo’s parking lot, and we notice plenty of parking (?) Walking around to the front and finally discovering the correct door to enter, we gave our name and reservation time; and then got seated. The first indication of our “experience to come”, was the fact that the restaurant was not even half full. ( Mind you, this was a Saturday night, at prime dining time). We ordered wine, (good pour, decent quality); and received fresh baked bread. Our house salads were generous in size, with a tasty House Italian dressing; and included crumbles of blue cheese which was a tasty and pleasant surprise. Entrees seemed to have come a little too quick after the salads. My wife had the chicken cacciatore, which was lackluster in taste, did not contain any capers; and came swimming in an ocean of sauce. Being predominantly Italian in heritage, she was very disappointed; knowing full well how the dish should be prepared. I had the Rack of Lamb Vesuvio, which to my surprise; looked nothing like the picture on Angelo’s web site, and was definitely not what was advertised. First of all, they describe and picture a “Full Rack” , which is 8 bones. What I received was 4 thinly sliced chops ( 4 bones), overcooked; with diced potatoes; (which should have been wedges). At $37.50, I feel I was definitely cheated. Decor was outdated, and busboys were hard to find. Dirty dishes remained on our table until we were done with our entire meal, and then some. Our booth was creaky and squeaky, adding to our discomfort. The above average volume of the 90’s radio station they were playing, gave an atmosphere of anything but Italian dining. I am sure this place was much more desirable in days of past, but our experience was...
Read moreI'll start by saying the food was fantastic which is the reason I even gave 2 stars, the service was horrendous!!! The woman who I assume to be the hostess saw us walk in and walked away leaving a server to seat us, he takes us to our table and says I'll be right with you then comes back a few minutes later takes our drink order, brings drink we order and don't see him again until he brings our salads, then not again till we get our food, never came back after dropping off our entrees to see how everything was, when he finally did we were finished for about 10 minutes he boxed our food and dropped the check. I would understand the terrible service if he was busy but he only had 1 other table so I'm going to assume that because we weren't dress nicely for Elmhurst that he was assuming that we weren't worth his time!! I am a bar owner myself and my family owns restaurants so I understand the business and if any of my employees treated someone the way I was treated I would consider their employment, Then when we were leaving the woman who I assume to be the hostess didn't even acknowledge us leaving!!! Needless to say even though the food was fantastic I will never return just by the way we...
Read moreThis place deserves 0 stars. We went here for the private banquet upstairs. The food was very average but the service, specifically the owner (Josh I believe his name is) is the reason you should avoid this place. Made it seem like we were an inconvenience the entire time and was not helpful at all during the actual day. He was very rude and unapologetic when we couldn't get the music to play from the main system and made it seem like it was our fault?! He whipped out a tiny speaker and said here you go that's your music and took off... I specifically told him during the reservation process that music was a very important factor for booking the venue, he said "we got it"... Clearly they didn't. Thankfully one of the cooks there had a larger speaker that he personally brought from his car so we can at least hear the songs. I can't speak for the main restaurant but definitely do yourself a favor and avoid the banquet service and dealing with Josh... I am from Elmhurst and I will never go to this place again because of the horrible...
