Swagyu Imperial Beach — Restaurant in Imperial Beach

I've had swagyu before but not from this location and my experience here was not as I expected.

There's several reasons why our experience was not the best, but I will start with what was good.

Fries are very good, well seasoned. Secret sauce was good Staff was friendly Food service was fast. Decor was good

The not so good:

-Staff was not attentive (but very friendly), the one person taking orders was mostly hanging out in the back and people kept walking in and having to wait for a bit for someone to come out. -Small location. Only 5 tables (4 seats each) and outside bar seating with no access to the inside. -No blinds to cover the sun from cooking us thru the glass. -Music was a bit to loud, I could hear my wife that was sitting right next to me and had to lean over every time we wanted to engage in conversation.

Food wise El swagador Has picked serrano peppers and it seemed like they did let the juices drain before putting it on the bun because the bun was soaked in the serrano juice I couldn't taste anything else but the serrano.

I had a terrible experience at 2 locations but was in town and had friends that wanted to try this place. We should have know it was not going to go well. To start, we had awful service and we should have left before ordering. We were rushed into ordering despite the place being almost empty (go figure) and there almost a feel like the person was doing us a favor by even taking our order. Our food was bland, there nothing particularly good about it. We had burgers that had a bun that fell apart with soggy fries. The burger had almost no taste and had a super weird aftertaste, like metallic almost: Now, the real trouble started 8 hours later when I spent the entire next day on the toilet. I’ve seen rocky road ice cream with more consistency than this. Would never recommend this place to my worst enemy. Unfortunately I need to give 1 star to leave a review, they don’t even deserve that. My downstairs neighbor is the real hero. I made reservations at 5pm and we were seated soon after they found enough menus for our group. We thought the staff were friendly, but unprepared for reserved dining. They didn’t check in often enough and forgot items. I was half way through the meal before anyone was around for me to ask what happened to my drink. Thereafter, it took another 10 minutes before I got my old fashioned. It may be better for Swagyu to keep their dining casual because with reservations, you expect a certain level of service.

The food, sadly was not as tasty either. Half of our group complained that the meat on their burgers were overcooked. Their burger sauce, as my daughter described it, “was just existing.” It was bland and a little sweeter than what we remembered. We ordered a side of their French fries and they too, were disappointing. The fries were crispy, but lacked seasoning. A little salt would have gone a long way. Seriously Swagyu,...
