Veterans Park — Attraction in San Diego

The swings appear newer than the rest of the equipment and are in good repair. Otherwise, our experience at this park was unpleasant. As we walked the 50 feet from our car to the playground, we walked across a grassy area that looked like it was meant for children to play, but it was riddled with dog feces. When we got to the playground it was littered with garbage, which we cleaned up before playing. The equipment was rusty and the paint was chipping badly. Large flakes of paint fell off on my children's fingers and in their hair as they used the monkey bars, fire pole, and twisty ladder. The slides were fine, not broken. The ground under the playground was a cushioned rubberized mat that had several broken pieces and poorly patched areas. The playground was not fenced off, and beside it had a pleasant looking covered picnic area, which was also filled with litter. The dog park was separated from the children's play area by a shady dirt patch and a walkway. The dog park was fenced. People who were walking their dogs to the dog park allowed their dogs to roam through the playground, which made my children nervous. Great playground area, sports fields, and even has a fenced dog park now! Library nearby so sometimes parking might be limited in the parking lot closest to it but there are other parking lots for this place. Also contains 4 Pokemon gyms and plenty of pokestops if you play Pokemon Go. The only thing I caution is that some of the streets going between parking lots are One-Way so be sure to pay attention to signs, pedestrians, and other drivers!

UPDATE: I bumped my rating down to 3 stars because they installed Woodchips in the park instead of sand/turf/grass and it is too much of a pain to want to bring my dogs here now because I will be pulling slivers out of their toes for an hour or so afterwards. I'd rather take them on an old fashioned walk, but it's a bummer because my dogs really enjoyed this nice off-leash park before the change, and had lots of fun here. Veterans Park in Imperial Beach has been completely renovated and trust me when I say it does not disappoint! The park features a large playground with an ADA Bridge/Sway Fun Glider, swings, climbing equipment, musical equipment, and an integrated tot lot area.The playground has partial shade but it’s best to wear a hat or apply sunscreen if visiting the park on a hot day.
