I had really high hopes for this place after reading the reviews. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to them for me, personally. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but based on what I ate, I probably wouldn't come back.
We stopped in around 11am on a gorgeous Tuesday. There were almost no other customers in the place when we walked in, but we waited a good 5+ minutes to be seated.
We perused the menu and it had a lot to offer. There were several things on the "after sunset" portion of it that looked really good but we assumed those were only available for dinner. We realized later that the place closes at 2 or 2:30pm every day, so I'm still confused by that.
We waited at least 10-15 minutes for someone to take our food and drink order, and maybe another 15-20 for the food to come out. Again, they weren't terribly busy, just maybe shorthanded. Not a big deal.
I went with the Shasta Slinger as I LOVE a good slinger and my table mate ordered an omelet.
The food came out nice and hot. My tablemate ordered biscuits as his side and was told that they were still in the oven. She asked if he wanted to wait 15 minutes for them or change his side. He opted to change his side to toast which came out promptly. He said his omelet was pretty good and it looked like it was.
My slinger, on the other hand, was not.
First off, the chili, the most important part of a slinger, was horrendous. It looked (and tasted) like canned tomatoes and canned beans mixed together and microwaved. No flavor, no spice or heat, no sauce of any sort. I would have preferred canned Great Value chili to whatever that was.
The potatoes on the bottom were no better. They weren't hot, crisp hash browns or crunchy, delicious home fries. They were more the taste and consistency of canned, sliced potatoes. No color, no flavor just tasteless mush.
The "sausage", unfortunately, wasn't great either I expected patties or links, but instead got strange little sausage pellets that had zero flavor and looked like they belonged on a pizza.
The two over-easy eggs atop the mess were real eggs and cooked perfectly. The shredded cheese was fine too.
I don't even think I ate half of the slinger and I am not a picky eater by any means. It was just baaaad.
I wanted to love this place because I like supporting locally owned businesses. I might give it another try but I most definitely will not...
Read moreLove this place! I’ve only eaten here maybe a hand full of times. It has been up and down since the start but I think they’ve worked out all the newness of being a small local restaurant- I see they even cater now! That’s awesome!! My husband, teenage son and I had a late breakfast there mid- morning today and really enjoyed it! Very nice waitress - I’m sorry I didn’t get her name - did a great job of taking our order and serving with a smile. I had the Imperial Breakfast sandwich with their home fries; my combo was a croissant + crisp bacon + 1 over-medium fried egg. It was done to perfection! The home fries were delicious too and not too alert - thank you!! I had a PSL and it was not sugary, upon request, but honestly lacked the pumpkin spice… way too faint. My son had the strawberry shortcake Belgian waffles and orange juice. The waffle slices, topped with whipped cream and strawberries in syrup, were plated beautifully - he ate all of it! The oj is squeezed fresh from an orange machine - just like the ones you see when traveling to Spain!! It’s wonderful! My husband had a half-order of biscuits and gravy and a vanilla latte. His latte was perfect and he said the gravy “wasn’t his grandma’s, but pretty good”. He was happy with it. The waitress accidentally brought him a full order - he politely reminded her he had ordered a half-size. She made sure the half-order price was on the bill - Professionalism matters. ( he only ate half BTW ). This place shines with its decor also. I think the tiny entrance table with local advertisements is a bit busy - clutter but kind clutter : ) Maybe it would be more useful in the bathrooms’ for a captive audience? Just focus on the menu specials there would be my designer advice. Anyway, we are very lucky to have this establishment here!! Looking forward to...
Read moreThis place could EASILY be a 5 star and I am only deducting 1 star based on a personal preference and opinion for two things. One food related and the other for atmosphere. Everything I have tried so far has been top notch. However, the biscuits and gravy were a huge miss for me and my wife. I get white flour gravy with sausage is typically pretty bland around here...kind of a Missouri standard This was THE most bland flour and water mix I believe I have ever had. Aside for being way to salty, it was not good IMO. The biscuits themselves were too fluffy, if you can believe that! Good for jelly, honey and butter...not, biscuits and gravy. This in MY opinion...I know a whole bunch of folks like their gravy flat with little to no seasoning. Also, we found found several undercooked hunks of sausage in the mix. EVERYTHING else, 5 out of 5.
Atmosphere: First visit we were seated close to the owner and her friends. They and she were very loud and distractful(?) during our meal. I gather from the overtly loud conversation she is a doctor and travels the world and I suspect whether she wanted to, or not, the whole place to knew it that day!. I am glad you travel the world to help folks, but I just want to enjoy my brunch without my ears being molested! The place is cleaner that and operating room and the staff have all been quick, polite and eager to please! I will not let the biscuits and gravy keep from all the other wonderful food! I'll continue to visit. Alot!
Edit: As promised I've been back a couple more times. Both times something new. Enjoyed both dishes! Service is always excellent. If you haven't been yet, get off your butt and go!! The place is CLEAN and the service is great and the...
