We LOVE Hawaiian brothers! The NKC is our favorite environment but the Indep location we visit often bc it’s close. It is adorable inside too. The design and food is so perfection! I’m sad to give them 3 stars bc we are super fans, but they do not take care of the environment by recycling or using biodegradable products if they don’t recycle them. Their food containers is all but no ones taking those home to recycle or reuse but us. Their napkins are atleast MADE from recyclable material. But their utensils are plastic and go to landfills after single use, their ice cream comes in single use plastic and their containers go to trash. I watched on a Saturday, about 30 of those go directly into the trash can that goes into the landfill in about the hour we were there. I’ve asked multiple locations why they don’t recycle and take better care of the planet and no one gives me an answer. Most especially because “Hawaii” is represented in this brand, yet Hawaiians take care of the Earth and are connected with the earth more than most cultures. They don’t waste and they don’t take. They give back to Mother Earth. So it would’ve been my hope to see this new company that’s putting locations in all over the place, do better at being green. I know it’s possible because I worked for a company called Iberostar that has 150 resorts worldwide and they are 100% plastic free as of 2020. If they can do it, any small business can do it too! It’s just a matter of switching what you buy and providing recycling for customers so we don’t have to carry all our trash and compost home. 🥴

So this picture is of us having to carry out all our dirty dishes to take home and clean, compost and recycle. Not super fun to carry all that when you have a...

Wanted to be one of the firsts for this one. I had Hawaiian Bros in Lees Summit before this one. Its an interesting food. On paper it shouldn't work. The food isn't actually hot or especially exquisite. However, like a beer, sometimes you just gotta have it.

Getting into this location was a bit labyrinthine. I wanted to go inside, but there didnt seem to actually be a way to the parking lot. I ended up snaking around the building to get to it. Once I was inside, I had a good experience. I got my food very fast, within 4 minutes.

A guy helped me through the ordering process, and even helped me get a membership going. I got myself a Kilauea chicken plate for 9.99. It was a full meal with the main, rice, and a side of macaroni. On top of that I got a Lilikoi Passion drink for 2 bucks.

The Lilikoi tasted like guava nectar, which is also on the menu if you havent had that before. Nectar is a little bit thicker than juice, but not as thick as honey. The chicken was spicy but not as spicy as Mexican spicy. Thai spicy would look and laugh. The rice was very standard, nothing bad about it though. I don't usually like cold macaroni, but from here it just works.

Like I said, there is something about Hawaiian Bros that is just addictive. You may taste it and be like, "alright", but a couple of weeks later you'll get an itch that only HB...

I loved how they designed the place, it felt so comfy being in the restaurant! My main concerned was the self-ordering station. Unfortunately during my visit 2 out of 3 of the self ordering tablets were out of order so that limited the pace. The annoying part were the unclear instructions when it came to the sides. We didn’t know if we had to add in the sides to our meal, so we had to fiddle around with it. The whole “rice all sub Mac” and other options made the whole process really confusing. We heard that they implemented a new system with ordering. Either way we had to “guess” and hoped that it came out okay. Which it kind of didn’t~ Basically- DONT CLICK ANY SUBS, your order will automatically have those sides that you see in the picture without clicking anything extra. Also the 3 fires for SPICY was actually just mild. I can’t handle spicy and it was surprisingly not spicy which was in my favor but not to my friend. Anyways, the food was overall good, but the rice was~ meh… soggy and more mushy than how I like it.
