The Lunch Box — Restaurant in Independence

Love a good burger and this place caught my attention when I was in Independence. It is a small location but the food was worth every penny. They have a little of everything on the menu and it is all made to order. I got a double cheeseburger and it was HUGE. Wife got a steak quesadilla and the peppers and onions in it were so good I can't explain it.

They make you fresh chips while you are waiting on the food and I tell you this, whatever they season the chips with is pure gold. The flavor was incredible and it went really well with the fresh salsa that comes with it.

They don't have a soda fountain so you have to order drinks by the bottle. Don't let that be a deal breaker since the food is that good.

I was able to try their street tacos and tamales from their food truck in the parking lot of advance auto parts on noland. The two ladies working were very friendly. The price was good ($2 each tamale, $1.75 each street taco) and paying was easy using their square device which emailed my receipt to me (love that feature). I got tamales and steak street tacos. They are perfect. The street tacos had a generous portion of meat. The tamales I had to wait to eat until I got home later, but I reheated them in the toaster oven at 325 for 20 minutes. I was in the area for the morning from out of town and felt like a breakfast burrito. I did a google maps search for Mexican breakfast and the Lunch Box was three blocks away. I was the first customer right at opening and I was warmly greeted by a man I assumed to be the owner. I ordered a Chorizo burrito and he immediately started to make it and we talked the whole time he cooked. He wrapped the burrito and it was huge and and was also very good along with his homemade hot salsa. The owner told me he had been in business here for fourteen years and I can see why.
