Sat at the bar and despite immediately having to do battle against the fruit fly infestation, the atmosphere was pleasant. Ordered a totally flat soda and the chicken marsala. The starter salad with raspberry vinaigrette and candied walnuts was wonderful, the marsala... Not so much. The frozen, unbreaded slices of chicken had the texture of beef jerky which was drenched in a grey mushroom based gravy slurry that was not reduced but thickened with only the finest of cornstarch. I understand that marsala wine isn't as cheap as boons farm but when you skimp out on that of which the dish is named after, said meal isn't going to taste right. Which this certainly did not I could only eat half of it and really didn't want to make a big deal out of it but after the bartender noticed that I wasn't particularly fond of the dish I had every member of the staff approach me and tell me over and over again how it's their most popular dish and I can't tell you how many times they said "the chef will stand behind this". Well, I'm sure she did stand behind that marsala while heating up the frozen chicken in the microwave but she absolutely didn't stand behind it for very long while doing so. When preparing Marsala, you have to pound fresh chicken breasts then bread them.. THAT did not happen. You also must use a lot Of marsala wine and then boil it down to reduce it down to a thick sauce. This meal tasted nothing like marsala because that didn't happen. It was thickened by using corn starch.. Like I said, I didn't want to make a big deal out of it and simply leave my meal half eaten but after being approached by the entire staff out came the chef and once again told me that she'd "stand behind" her marsala. She then said that sometimes "medication" can make things not taste right... That wasn't the case I promptly told her and her response was "I see what's going on here". Insinuating that I was trying to get out of paying for my meal. Yea, that's what I was doing... My move is to go into restaurants, eating half a meal and then try to get out of paying for that HALF of a meal. Get real! After telling her that she was delusional AND at that point having to plainly tell her that she is a hack chef, her comeback was "I'm Sicilian".. Just because your grandparents came from Italy in 1920 doesn't mean you know how to cook nor does it mean you're Sicilian! You're from Italian descent and you LIVE in western Pennsylvania.. period. If someone calls out your sub par cooking, telling them where your grandparents were born isn't going to magically make that person change their mind about a...
Read moreEdit since the owner asked for more details: I brought my wife here for a birthday dinner date. With two small children, we rarely get out just ourselves. They refused to sell us scallops because the "market price was way over the quality, but would give us extra shrimp". Ok, not that big of a deal. We ordered wedding soup for an app, my wife asked the waiter if she could get a different sauce on a particular dish, I don't remember the dish. The waiter said he'd have to ask the chef because "it interferes with quality of the chefs recipe and she doesn't like doing that". It took 15 minutes to "ask" and according to him, she refused to do it. My wife has a minor dairy allergy (she won't die, but imagine getting hammered when you suffer from bad hangovers) so she wanted a sauce that wasn't cream based since the dish had cheese in it before the sauce. We said we would just pay for our drinks and soup and head out. He never came back, I had to go to the bartender to get my bill. Additionally, we are in our early 30's, the average age (on a Friday evening) was around 55. We could over hear the other customers being talked to by several staff members and we were basically second class. We walked down the street to Nap's and received great food...
Read moreEmily W's attitude when she THINKS customers cant hear her - oh wow. Originally, she was wonderful. Did everything right and was super sweet. Then she came to our table an HOUR AND A HALF after we sit down to tell us that there was an issue with our order in the system and they were expediting it. Which was great. Food was awesome. Left a note on the comment card about how our server admitted there was an issue with our order and no one came over to offer to comp even just one of meals - let alone both. All we got was a SINGULAR piece of cake (we were on a date so there were 2 of us) - and didn't even get the option of picking a flavor. However, that was whatever. UNTIL I heard Emily, our server tonight, actively reading my comment card ALOUD to her coworkers and talking bad about what I said. Might i add, i was never once rude to her nor did i even blame her - all i said on the card was she admitted there was an error that occured and she was fixing it. I just wouldve appreciated even the offer of comping our meal. However, after hearing the way she spoke about us - WHILE WE WERE STILL THERE, might i add - I'm...
