Dine in late lunch.. this Locally owned restaurant is a lovely place to go if you are looking for good housemade food. First time visit. The atmosphere is comfortable & the tables are spaced nicely. There is even a small counter available for those single diners who would prefer that option. The decor is simple yet homey & welcoming. It was nice & clean even in those areas that sometimes get forgotten about like ledges. This is a nice family friendly establishment. Our server was friendly & knowledgeable although she was a little dismissive when asked about the specials.. apparently they were written on the big chalk boards located in the middle of the room behind me. (See pictures) no prices listed. The menu offers lots of great breakfast options which are available all day.. more options than Cracker Barrel. (They have several types of WAFFLES! EGGS BENEDICTS & some interesting BURRITOS) They also have several BURGERS (1/2 lb ea or larger) and lots of other tasty sandwiches like a CHICKEN PHILLY, FISH TACOS, FISH POBOY, GYROS, CUBANS & many more.. & ENTREE SALADS for lunch. Oh and CHICKEN TENDERS. Dinner menu starts at 3pm & they offer several classic homestyle entrees like MEATLOAF & FRIED CHICKEN. The price was comproble to similar type restaurants mainly $9.99 to $14.99? We ordered the Appetizer FRIED GREEN TOMATOES $8.99?.. they were delicious & served with a tasty housemade RANCH DRESSING. My dining companion ordered the Dinner order of CHICKEN TENDERS (4 pieces) which came with 2 sides vs. Lunch which came with 1 side. The Tenders were hand breaded & tasty.. with a delicious housemade HONEY MUSTARD.. REAL MASHED POTATOES w/ Brown Gravy & a very tasty SLAW. I ordered the REUBEN which was loaded with a very generous portion of real tender juicy Corned Beef on Swirled Rye Bread with a side of their housemade POTATO SALAD. Both were delicious although I would say the sandwich would be improved if the bread were grilled longer so it could stand up to the moisture of everything better. It was soggy on the bottom. The potato salad is again housemade & MUSTARD based which is fine & paired really good with the Reuben. The one thing that I would warn customers about is that they put REAL BACON in the POTATO SALAD. It's tasty, a nice twist & adds good texture but it isn't mentioned on the menu or by the server. My companion doesn't eat pork or for those who may have Alpha Gal it could be an issue. The portion for both of us we brought at least half back home for a 2nd meal. Didn't try a dessert today but the TRES LECHE Cake looked really good. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND & PLAN...
Read moreI was excited to bring my wife here after meeting my parents for lunch at this charming little dinner. I had a hot ham and cheese sandwich, but the breaded tenderloin sandwich my parents ordered was really where it was at.
In my enthusiasm introducing my wife, I made the mistake of ordering a dinner of smothered porkchops, which I mistook for a breaded tenderloin meal. Pork is an inexpensive meat anyway, the value is in the preparation and for that reason, I do not recommend this platter.
The meal comes with two porkchops, one of which was 40% gristle, lacked any real flavor, and they were thin and tough. They're slathered in brown gravy over mashed potatos, but as a result of the texture and unremarkable flavoring, the dish was joyless. The green beans and bacon we ordered were swimming in a deep yellow oil, hadn't absorbed any of the bacon flavor and even the drowned bacon had a barely recognizable flavor. The timing of the plating was clearly off.
On the positives, their in-house ranch is fantastic. It seems anything fried is really, really good. The fried green tomatos are a real treat and the breaded tenderloin sandwich on toasted french bread and fries we took to-go reheated perfectly in the air fryer and made a delicious breakfast. The atmosphere is very comfortable and the service is always helpful, our waitress was very nice and appropriately attentive. The value of the food compared to flavor (depending on the platter) and portion size is enough to leave you feeling very satisfied.
On the whole, we don't mind the hit-or-miss menu because there are clearly some gems. We highly anticipate the...
Read moreI'm disappointed. Nellie's was a wonderful place to eat, what feels like not too long ago. We came for breakfast. I got a garden omelet and he got country fried steak with hashbrowns and eggs, and a side of pancakes. Starting off, we asked for a water with lemon and a coffee. Our server came back without lemons and creamer. Not a big deal, so I asked again, may I have some lemons for this water and he asked for cream for his coffee. Still none. Eventually my boyfriend finally got up from the patio to go inside and get some. Then our food came. He had to go inside again after asking, and not receiving any butter for the pancakes. I understand a garden omelet is eggwhite and veggies, not super flavorful. However, this omlette was greasy and not tasty at all. And the side of toast I recieved had hardly any butter on it at all. His country fried steak was hardly battered. Basically a grease fried hamburger. He asked for crispy hashbrowns, not burnt hashbrowns.
The overall experience and food was very disappointing. I completely understand it gets busy and rushed. I've worked in food since I was a teenager. However just listening on the patio it seemed like many of the servers including ours, were not able to handle such volume of people.
I would have said something to the manager but it didn't seem to me that it would have mattered. If I had known, I would have stayed home and made...
