The worst customer service I’ve ever experienced (and I lived in New York and Philadelphia for 15 yrs!!). I placed a $45 order via Grub Hub and called right after because I needed to make a dietary request. They were very busy and asked that I call back when the order came through - which I totally understand. When I called back, the man I spoke with either couldn’t understand me (because of the noise) or just refused to actually listen to my very simple request (I just wanted to know which vegetables were included in one of my combos) but he ultimately told me they were slammed and the food wouldn’t be ready for another 40 minutes and they couldn’t do anything with Grub Hub orders, so I said I would just cancel. After I learned that the app wouldn’t let me cancel and that the restaurant had to, I called back and let the same gentleman know. He hung up on me. I called back again just begging that they cancel the order and he said he didn’t know how and hung up. He didn’t answer my next call. I’m not sure why they think delivery customers are not paying customers and deserve to be treated this way. I will be coming to Indy on a monthly basis and planned to eat here regularly, as I grew up on Ethiopian food in the DC metro area and don’t have access to it where I live. I really wish this had been a good experience because I like supporting black business, but they treated...
Read moreThis is THE place in town for good Ethiopian food. Sit at the bar and watch a soccer game or grab a table for a quick date or large group. There are vegan and vegetarian options as well as a variety of meat dishes, so it's a great place to bring people with a variety of dietary needs. Spice levels also vary by dish, so if you prefer your food to be mild or hot, ask a server for recommendations. There is metered street parking out front. The location is directly across from the Central Library, so it's perfect if you're in the area anyway to attend a workshop or pick up a book.
For folks who are completely unaware of Ethiopian food, know in advance that you won't be seeing any flatware on the table. It's scooped up with bread, using your hands. So probably not the best option if you've just finished changing your oil or harvesting potatoes. If you're in Indy and wanting to try Ethiopian for the first time, though, this is 100% the...
Read moreSo grateful to have this relatively new restaurant, in my neighborhood! Excellent service by a waiter, Ephraim, spacious and serene surroundings, and the menu offerings are, simply put, on a level of gourmet cuisine. I ordered a combination plate, with two kinds of meat dishes, one chicken and one beef, and three vegetarian dishes, green and yellow lentil and collard green. The combination also came to the table with their vegetarian cabbage dish, which I had been reluctant to order, for some reason, but it ended up being my favorite. If you've not tried Ethiopian Injera (from Wikipedia: a sourdough-risen flatbread with a unique, slightly spongy texture, used to scoop up meat and vegetable stews) it should be on your "bucket list". I've been to a few Ethiopian restaurants, including another here in Indianapolis, and one in NYC, and...you just...
