I chose this place as the pre-game (dinner, drinks, and live music) portion of my friend's (of 25 years) bachelorette party. It was everyone's first time visiting. It will NOT be our last (but).
The food was GREAT! I called ahead, spoke with two very helpful ladies (one was the owner). They made everything special just as they promised when I called. The service was attentive and warm. The bride was so happy and that was my ultimate goal.
The ONE exception to our night was that everyone's initial cocktail was underwhelming. They seemed, to all of us, to be lacking alcohol. I am only an occasional drinker and even my drink seemed quite weak. We brought this concern to the attention of our server who took the matter up with the bartender, Julian. Julian is singlehandedly the reason this review is missing a star.
Rather than simply make us new drinks or even just come over to apologize, Julian came to the table with the extremely off-putting demeanor of arrogance. He initially implied that something must be wrong with our reasoning. Julian then went the unbelievable distance of suggesting that the problem could be that we all "must be used to drinking doubles." Excuse you!
I spent the next ten minutes mediating between Julian and the reasonably offended bridesmaids, and also redirecting Julian. Eventually, Julian accepted that his approach was offensive and that he should have approached with a listening ear instead of attempting to be quick-witted and defensive. He did ultimately apologize and offered to make us new drinks. All but two of us declined. We simply were no longer interested.
To the credit of the Chef, the servers and the overall establishment, the Chef visited our table to express his concern for our satisfaction. He apologized and showed sincere interest in making things right. Fortunately, we had been able to get back on track with Julian toward the end of our conversation.
The night was not ruined. The food, friendly service, and beautiful atmosphere makes the Flatiron @ The Point on Penn a new favorite. Our party strongly suggests the salmon, steaks, and by all means the brussel sprouts.
Thank you, Chef Brown and Roe (I apologize if I misspelled your name) and to the wonderful servers who helped make my dear friend's night...
Read morePlaced a 220 online get a call back from a server who asks what temp and sides I wanted because those options weren't given to me when I placed the order. I figured I'd place it then call them. I also selected the delivery option as I'm unable to drive due to 16 hours of surgery 15 days ago. He very rudely said , " CANT YOU MAKE THIS EASIER ON ME AND PICK IT UP?". Not considering that delivery was offered to me and that I chose it because I'm unable to drive at the moment. On every page online in BOLD UPPERCASE LETTERS the website states PAYMENT DUE UPON ARRIVAL. He then is talking to another staff member while I'm trying to explain my situation and thar we're 4 minutes away from one another. He demands my credit card telling me if I want my order give him my card information now. I didn't want to put this on my card. He's got my name, my phone number and knows my location because he called me back! Upon hearing this he's acting exasperated and tells me that even though on every page on their website states PAYMENT UPON DELIVERY is expected that cash isn't going to work for him. I said so you've been insulting and told me make it easier on me come get it and now you're expecting me to hand over my credit card information? Told this jerk nope I'll take my 220 and spend it at another place . WHO DEMANDS THE CUSTOMER COME PICK IT UP AND UUGGHH ITS 3 MINUTES AWAY?! I've been a professional chef for over 20 years now and I've never been treated like trash or told what I'm going to do if I'd like my food. People get fired for less. SPEND YOUR TIME AND MONEY WHERE IT'LL BE RESPECTED. I'm so disgusted how I've been treated I'm making sure my 150k follows are made...
Read moreOrdered (to go) the biscuits & gravy on my first visit, with a side of bacon. B&G were meh, they break the biscuit up and pour the gravy over it in a cardboard soup looking cup, (may be served differently if you dine in?) the biscuits didn't taste done, they were doughy, had the 2 biscuit/gravy for $5. The side of bacon, 3 slices for $3, was just an unimpressive, it seemed to be the precooked bacon, thin, limp. I would expect an establishment that lists this on their Home page "We serve what your mom made with a twist. Farm-to-table fresh ingredients are the base for all of our dishes so you can start your day off right with a taste of home." would offer/serve better quality food, including their bacon, like thick and fresh cooked to order or at least not precooked, prepackaged bacon, I can assure you as a mom, I NEVER served precooked bacon to may family, so I guess the "twist" is it's the opposite of what a mom would serve, or father, to be fair. Not a lot of seating in the cafe area either. The other "what the heck" moment was the $7 ONE EGG sandwich, served on your choice of white, wheat, whole grain or wrap.....just one egg on bread or a tortilla wrap, no protein, no cheese, nada, that better be some kind of egg is all I can say. Heck, even Starbucks breakfast egg sandwiches with a protein and cheese max out at around $4.75.....I would like to say that this was a great place and I was really hoping so, since it is so close to my office, but it's proximity to my work was about all it has going for it, in my humble opninion....I gave it a try but marking it off my list after my first visit. Best of luck...
