My recent dining experience at Beholder in Indianapolis was nothing short of extraordinary. Accompanied by friends, we embarked on a culinary journey that, once again, reaffirmed Beholder’s reputation as one of the city's premier dining establishments.
Ambiance and Service: From the moment we walked in, we were enveloped in an atmosphere that effortlessly blends sophistication with a welcoming warmth. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing our experience with their impeccable service and deep understanding of the menu.
Culinary Excellence: Our meal began with shared appetizers that set the tone for the evening. The Oysters were fresh and briny, providing a perfect start with their clean, oceanic taste. The Baby Carrots and Asparagus were delightful accompaniments, each dish showcasing the vegetables' natural flavors with subtle enhancements that made them shine.
For our main courses, we each selected a different dish, creating a delightful medley of tastes. The Roasted Lamb was a symphony of flavors, tender and perfectly seasoned with herbs and spices that elevated the meat’s richness. The Wagyu Collette stood out with its melt-in-your-mouth texture and luxurious taste, a testament to Beholder’s commitment to quality. The Scallops & Fresh Corn Polenta was a highlight, with the scallops seared to perfection and paired beautifully with the creamy, rich polenta. Lastly, the Miso Sablefish was incredibly succulent, imbued with the subtle umami of miso that enhanced the fish’s delicate flavor.
Dessert: Our evening culminated in a trio of exquisite ice creams. The Black Treacle Ice Cream was rich and deeply flavorful, a perfect blend of sweetness and complexity. The Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream offered a delightful contrast with its creamy texture and fresh strawberry notes. The Burnt Banana Ice Cream was a standout, with its unique, caramelized flavor that left a lasting impression.
Conclusion: In every aspect, Beholder exceeded our expectations. The combination of exceptional service, a refined atmosphere, and culinary brilliance makes it a standout destination for anyone seeking a remarkable dining experience in Indianapolis. Our evening was an amazing time shared among friends, made unforgettable by the outstanding dishes and the restaurant’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

Read moreMy husband and I were very excited to finally try Belholder. I checked out their menu online and found some exciting stuff. They have a nice retro-sheek vibe; lowish lighting, high & low tables, exposed kitchen area, & nice music playing. My husband got the sherry & snacks. He enjoyed the sherry, the snack items were slight but tasty. We shared the local mushrooms. They were absolutely heavenly! They were a little pricey for the amount but I'm guessing the price reflects the fact that they are local? I'm still not sorry I ordered them. My sister got the new item fried chicken & potato salad. The chicken was so delicious & juicy. My hubs got the twice cooked octopus, so tender, so tasty. I got the bucatini and added the winter truffles (they did not skimp). I found, however, that my pasta was under done. By the time the waitress came by to ask if everything was ok, I'd already taken a couple of bites & given my hubs & sister bites. She offered a do over, which I accept. In the mean time she kindly brought me the grilled Kale salad which was so delicious with very crispy, charred kale, apples, & hazelnuts. The do over of the bucatini was so appreciated & perfect. The brodo chicken broth on the pasta was out of this world. Yummy! We all went for dessert as well. The roasted banana pudding was obviously made with actual bananas. The roasted granola on top was slightly bitter & salty which paired well. The amaro & bitter chocolate ice cream was interesting. The liquor was in the licorice family (not my thing but my husband's thing) but went so well with the bitter chocolate ice cream. My sister got the fermented pineapple sorbet, it was just like eating the sweetest frozen pineapple. THEN to apologize for the pasta, they sent us the lime cheesecake. I had actually really wanted to try it, so I'm not sad about getting it. However, it was not my favorite. The cheesecake was delicious but it had wintergreen glaze on it which did not mesh for me. I think it would have been great if it were just mint. Oh, also, they had beautiful fresh lilies in the dining room. I have a super sensitive nose & could smell them strongly. I asked the hostess if they could be moved & she graciously accommodated me, which I really appreciated. The service...

We stopped by for a dinner date during Devour Indy, so we got to try the tasting menu! Overall, the food was either decent or delicious. I highly recommend getting the Chocolate Rosemary Ice Cream at the end!
⚠️ TIP: Do yourself a favor and choose high table or chef side seating because the small side room we sat in with the regular, dining tables was lackluster for ambiance. It is quieter but there's not much to look at. The main attraction and overall energy of restaurant is in the main room or at least the main side room where the wine is stored.
STARTERS We started with the Grilled Escarole Caesar Salad and Spicy Tuna Handroll. The salad was more of a veggie steak that you needed to eat using a fork and knife. It was definitely filling. I liked the taste of it (savory) but my partner and I agreed that it was slightly too salty. The tuna Handroll was decent but nothing special.
ENTREE We got Grilled Beef Terres Major which was deliciously seasoned and a perfectly juicy medium rare we were obsessed with the pureed/mashed sweet potato that was so light. We also got the Great Lakes Walleye which was delicious. The skin was crispy and the fish was cooked well and fell apart and not dry at all. It came with tartar sauce on the side but I found it completely unnecessary since the fish was seasoned well. The potato wedges that came with the fish were filling and rustic. Ketchup came with the dish for the potatoes which is a plus in my book.
DESSERT Pancake Ice Cream was vanilla with some nuts but lacked a strong pancake taste. Chocolate Rosemary Ice Cream though knocked it out of the park! Creamy and the added rosemary made it feel like I was eating an Italian, chocolate baked good. Highly recommend!
