This is a great contribution to the 10th Street corridor and its impact is evident from the numbers of people who are eating there. Mayfair is not meant to be a high-end restaurant but is meant, it seems to me, to be a great neighborhood pub. It does this well, just like the pubs in London serve their neighborhoods. The prices are reasonable and the service is very good and friendly both at the bar and in the food areas (indoor and out). The menu is a little restricted but that is not a big deal for me because so are my tastes. I always land on the Mayfair burger. There is a pub-like Sunday brunch menu as well which I have not yet tried.
On my last visit there was a little mix-up when I was in a hurry to leave and I accidentally walked out with the signed establishment" copy of the credit card receipt. I was confused the next morning when I saw that a tip that was a little more than my habitual 20% was marked on the Square e-mail receipt. I took it back to the manager, Alex (?). He researched the matter and refunded the amount very promptly. I appreciated this act of good customer service and it definitely cemented my already positive view of Mayfair.
Finally, E 10th Street has had fast food joints for years but no nice place to have a bite and meet neighbors or take friends and family. These fast food places contribute nothing to nutrition and seem to leave a lot of paper and styrofoam for blocks in all directions. With Mayfair and a couple of other places establishing good, clean, reliable eateries, this is...
Read moreThe very eclectic combo of European, vintage, Yule, western, and probably about four other vibes smashed together for a rather fun and basic bar. No waiters, order at the bar and card is held, fantastic tap list, I sampled quite a bit and enjoyed the craft variety. Found two glorious brews at opposite ends, a sparkly sour and a bitter nitro right for my dinner and trivia. Amazing pineapple tart and glorious Old Rasputin nitro imperial stout, both too right. Trivia was random and awful, way too niche and difficult while also trying to be fun and friendly. I suppose the rotating hosts give that spectrum but I'd rather know what it'll be like over a clueless mash of impossible questions on limited topics. Food was a win! Most well priced, my burger was tasty though simple. Some additional pickled something would reach the extra mile. Chicken poppers were way too easy to eat. I could see myself dropping in again on a whim especially with my Indy favorite Rabble...
Read moreThe charm that you see on the outside of Mayfair Taproom is exactly how you would picture it on the inside. It gives you the vibe of being in a different time zone, which is the point, I think. The service is great. You can either come in and grab a seat at the bar or sit indoors or outside the bar seating, divided by a long wooden barrier that holds the cushion benching. The owner, Alec, occasionally works behind the bar, and he and his wife own the taproom. The food is great--I got the chicken bites and a side of fries, and both were perfectly crispy. They have a nice selection of beers, both on draft and canned, including delicious canned sours (I had Teak). Prices are reasonable, averaging $7 for a beer, and the food is standard pricing. Kids are welcome, too! All in all, Mayfair Taproom is a great place to...
