I visited Biggby coffee today and was surprised that they've started asking for tips at the drive-thru window, which was not the case just a couple days ago--and without the annoying tablet that requires you to select a tip amount before taking the payment. Instead, the barista asked me, "would you like to leave a tip today?" while inserting my credit card into the traditional card-swipe machine. I declined but was uncomfortable when the barista proceeded to go out of sight to prepare my drink.
As a customer, I felt strong-armed and now had to rely on the barista's integrity not to tamper with my order. This is not a stretch of the imagination. In this day and age, breaches of trust at food service establishments are far too common. While the barista was friendly, asking for tips at the drive-thru window isn't appropriate, let alone before the order is made somewhere around the corner.
Furthermore, I have no doubt that a successful company like Biggby has already factored employee wages into its cost to render a reasonable profit margin. I went out of my way to visit Biggby's--passing Starbucks and Dunkin. I am a good tipper for table service, but these types of establishments should appreciate your loyal patronage without expecting additional compensation.
Although I appreciate the friendly service today, I won't be revisiting this location. I still love Biggby, and am crossing my fingers that the location on Southport Rd hasn't adopted this new policy.
I hope my feedback can help the management team understand how their drive-thru tipping policy and preparation practices impact customers'...
Read moreI patronize bigby chain locations all over the country, and frequently in my home state of Michigan. This is by far the worst one that I have been to…. The staff does not give you a drink sleeve on hot drinks (twice, burnt myself the first time, and even at the second trip I had to pull around and ask again for a drink sleeve….. this is the most basic thing to do for customers, they were not properly trained) as well as not putting the cream cheese on the bagel when ordered. Every other bigby location, when you order a bagel with cream cheese on it, you receive a bagel with cream cheese on it. These staff members do not even do the bare minimum, they just want to get the orders out of the window and more money for their franchise owner. I would recommend you avoid this location and patronize another bigby elsewhere. THIS IS NOT NORMAL BIGBY STORE
If you know what is happening with Tim Hortons in Canada, this is the same issue. I will be contacting Bigby corporate to make sure that they are aware of this chain, their are litany of horrible reviews, and exploitative...
