UPDATED REVIEW:
Black Circle is my very favorite venue in Indianapolis, both as a performer and as a fan, and this is for many reasons.
The atmosphere is appealing and welcoming to anyone and everyone. People who like heavy metal in particular can really find a home here, but so can anyone else. There is lots to enjoy, from awesome live bands to awesome vinyl records spinning to pinball machines lining the walls. The staff are all friendly and helpful, and they actually make an effort to get to know the regulars.
The food they serve from Elena Ruz next door is all excellent. Try some of the sandwiches and empanadas next time you are in - there is almost always a special empanada going and they are always good. Also, they now have a dedicated late-night menu to serve those eating late - this is especially helpful for the bands playing!
As a member of a local Indianapolis heavy metal band, playing shows here is always a delight. The sound is always run well, they are easy to work with, and we usually have a decent turnout here. This translates to the attendees having a good time, because there are always great bands coming who are excited to play on that stage.
Original review: New favorite metal venue in Indianapolis, both as a musician and as a fan. The stage and sound setup are nice. Great music and awesome arcade games as well. The empanadas from the Cuban kitchen are good too, though it would be nice if they served sandwiches later...
Read moreWe went to a drag show and goth night here last night. I'm not a big beer person, but we wanted to attend their events.
Please note as they are a brewery, they don't have a full bar. I was sad they didn't list any of the other beer and wines they had beside their own. I never saw a list of what they carried, and the music was too loud for me to ask.
I got the dry cider first. I don't generally like any dry alcohol, but the flavor was good enough I didn't mind. I tried their rasberry beer last and couldn't drink it. The flavor was not something I enjoyed. My husband mixed it in with his beer.
As to the venue, it's rather small. When we arrived, it was standing room only. We had a hard time finding a place to stand that wasn't in the way. Full disclosure, I am disabled as is a friend who came with us. After standing for an hour, we were ready to go home. My husband finally got us a table, so we could stay longer.
They have a wonderful deck with roof coverage, but they had all the tables and chairs stacked to the side. We would have been fine if we could have sat down outside. I found it very odd they wouldn't utilize that space for the comfort of their customers.
We stayed for 3 hours, but we all left feeling disappointed. I doubt we will be returning in the future. We were not fans of the DJ for goth night. The music was more industrial than goth. All and all, it just...
Read morePerfect neighborhood spot: Amazing food, neat venue, cool laid-back vibe. The food is from Elena Ruz, amazing Cuban food. I had the Cubano and loved it! I would only have wished for a more stone ground mustard. Boyfriend had the Frita. We both agree the plantain chips are better than the yuca fries.
As far as beer selection, we tried 4 of their beers. The selection isn't huge, but you'll find something here you like. We both have vastly different tastes and we're satisfied. I feel the small, exclusive selection of local draft beers only highlights that this is a place that isn't going to compromise for the masses.
Need further proof of the bar's individuality? The house music is vinyl records played in their entirety.
we visited on a cold winter day. I can't wait to come back and experience the patio when the weather is nicer. We played pinball and TMNT arcade games - and I'm still as bad as ever! I should also mention the restrooms we're amazingly clean!
I'm most impressed with the personalized responses to each review - that shows a true commitment to the customer's...
